BEST PRACTICE #4

Scaling Up BEST Practices

CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT

School improvement is based on a continuous improvement model, using research-based accepted best practices, which align with student achievement needs, insure student progress, and may be revised when appropriate.

Goals

As evidenced in the SES Band Data, which content area(s) will be the focus for improving student achievement and why was this area chosen?

ELA and Science--We need to continue to show growth (learning gains in ELA) and overall achievement in Science to move toward the top of the SES band.

What specific BEST Practice(s) will be implemented or scaled-up to improve teaching and learning in order to increase performance within the SES Band?

We must increase the rigor of daily lessons and do a better job of ensuring tht every moment in the classroom is purposefully composed to increase student achievement and social/emotional growth.

Describe in detail how the BEST Practice(s) will be scaled-up.

Further laser focusd Professional Development on unwrappig the standards to uncover the RIGOR of what needs to be learned.
Continue to monitor and provide support for teacher in developing Common Formative Assessments beyond iReady.

What specific school-level progress monitoring data is collected and how often?

School-level progress monitoring is done through the collection of iReady Diagnostic data quarterly. Data chats are held approximately every other month to discuss the data that is being collected and what is being done to meet specific student needs.

How does the school ensure the fidelity of students not progressing towards school and district goals?

Each grade level has an appointed Curriculum Facilitator that is the expert on the grade level standards. Curriculum Facilitators meet with Administration and Coaches twice a month to develop the next months Instructional Focus. In addition to the grade level's Curriculum Facilitator as a support, coaches provide in class monitoring and support and administrators progress monitor through data chats and walkthroughs with immediate feedback.

Evidence--Common Formative Assessment results, classroom walkthrough data, lesson plans and student work.

Please complete this section based on 2018-2019 end-of-year results.
Instructional Implications: Discuss the success of specific strategies/activities and provide a rationale as to why those academic improvements occurred as a result of those strategies.

English Language Arts 3+ scores increased from  51-52%, ELA learning gains increased from 53-58%, ELA Learning gains for the lowest quartile increased from 45-48% . Strategic implementation that targeted the individual needs of students, using differentiated instruction across third-grade.  Push-in support was provided to increase direct instruction across fourth-grade.  Additionally, the use of small group instruction was implemented across fifth-grade.
Math learning gains increased from 60-66%, while math learning gains from the lowest quartile increased from 43-44% was accomplished by increasing a trend for solid standards based math skills across third-grade, and a focus of strategic direct instruction across fifth-grade.
