Module 1: Introduction

How familiar are you with the types of assessments we administer to our students?  This week, we will identify some characteristics of assessments, including factors of test validity, reliability, and practicality.  In addition, limitations will be addressed.

It is important to keep in mind that when ELLs are given an assignment written in English in any content area, their English skills are being assessed as well. Consequently, educators should strategically select or devise tasks so that ELLs can demonstrate understanding and/or mastery and achieve, regardless of their language proficiency.  Let’s take a look at important elements that lead to authentic assessment of our students.
