Grading and Reporting the Progress of ELLs
The Florida META Consent Decree requires that teachers provide comprehensible instruction to ELLs. This is accomplished through the use of ESOL instructional strategies, alternative assessments, supplementary materials, and native language assistance. Through the proper use of these strategies and techniques, ELLs can and will show progress. Review the ELL Grading Guidelines and located in the Bilingual/ESOL Handbook/ELL Grading.
Promotion and Retention of ELLs
The School Board of Broward County is in the process of revising Policy 6000.1 Standards of Service – Pupil Progression, in order to align the policy with current state and local requirements. This policy includes areas such as: Promotion criteria, Alternative promotion criteria: Section 4 4.16 Good Cause, Student Retention and Reporting Student Progress. Refer to this policy and its corresponding Procedural Manual for additional information.
