Personal Development

A
modernized version of the old Home Economics classes,
Personal Development,
also known throughout our district as Family and Consumer
Sciences (F.A.C.S)
is now a School-to-Career based curriculum. Using computers
to explore the
wonderful and exciting world of Family and Consumer
Sciences, students
will learn about the different careers associated with
F.A.C.S.
In sixth grade, the students learn the basics of life:
sewing, nutrition, consumerism, Keyboarding, an understanding
of basic computer applications
and other important things that will help them in their
everyday life.
Most of the learning is thru hands-on projects.
In seventh grade, the students begin on the computers.
Students are assigned specific programs to explore.
These are programs that deal with the beginning level
of careers such as: Decorators Assistant, Cook, Floral
Designer, etc. Students may elect to explore a variety
in business concepts with hands on practical applications.
Leadership skills will be emphasized. Each
program includes short videos on the career, along with
examples,
post-test, and activities for the students to complete.
Eighth grade students complete their journey, exploring
the more advanced areas of the career scale. These students
will experience the fields of Catering, Interior Designing,
Fashion Designing, etc. Students may elect to continue
exploring a variety in business concepts with hands
on practical applications. Leadership skills will be
emphasized. Again, these programs come with the
video, examples, post-test, and activity.
