Hello
Parents and Students,
Thank you for all you did to ensure a very smooth
opening. Buses aside,
it was an excellent beginning to the 2012-13 school
year.
Our student numbers are over projection and we will
be spending time
balancing classes and possibly hiring additional staff
to meet the CSR
mandate. The superintendent has charged all schools
to do everything
possible to reduce the state fine the district incurred
last year.
We have some really exciting news to report; our SECME
Team is once
again National Middle School champs – a second
year in a row! Mrs.
Niebla does a wonderful job getting the very best
out of our “tech kids”.
We are also embarking on a new language arts series
called
“SpringBoard”. Please see the letter and
information on our website
explaining this very significant addition to our programs.
Once again our students showed great success on the
end of course
assessments in both Algebra 1 and Geometry with a
100% passing rate.
Hats off to all of our fabulous math teachers! Our
5K run/walk
sponsored by Mrs. Fondren and the Student Government
raised
$4,000.00 for “Make a Wish”. Our musical
“Once Upon a Mattress”
performed to sold out audiences under the direction
of the Fabulous
Mrs. Maratta.
In closing, our environmental science kids are (tilling
the fields so to
speak) getting ready for this year’s vegetables,
our band kids are getting
those squeaks back to melodious notes, our art kids
are opening up their
sketch books – it sure is great to be a student
at Westglades. A special
“shout out” to our PTA lead by the tireless
energy of Mrs. Hurst, they
made our opening absolutely wonderful - these women
work selflessly to
make this a great place to come.
Sometimes I have to pinch myself to make sure this
is not a dream….
