The Goals and Objectives for Broward's High School Redesign

The Goals of Cohort 5 are the goals of the redesign initiative with the Smaller Learning Communities Federal Grant.  They are aligned with the Core Principles of The Blueprint for High School Redesign.

Goal One:  To engage students academically.
1.1  By June 2010, increase by 5 percent the number of students who score level  three or better on FCAT in reading.
1.2  By June 2010, increase by 5 percent the number of students who score level three or better on FCAT in mathematics.
1.3  By June 2010, increase the percentage of students enrolled in classes of high rigor (Advanced Placement, Honors, Dual Enrollment) by 10 percentage points compared to 2006-07.
1.4  By June 2010, increase the graduation rate (completing in 4 years) by 5 percentage points over 2006-07.
1.5  By June 2010, increase the percentage of students enrolled in postsecondary education, technical programs, internships, or advanced training by 20 percentage points compared to 2006-07.


Goal Two:  To personalize the learning environment for all students.
2.1  By June 2010, provide evidence that all students will be in smaller learning     communities by random selection or choice.
2.2  By June 2010, increase the percentage of students reporting contact with an adult advocate who is familiar with student needs and aspirations by 75% over the number reported in the Student Survey.


Goal Three:  To engage entire community in articulating a shared vision.
3.1  By June 2012, increase the percentage of parent and community member involvement in academic/instructional support, development of program goals, and activities within the Smaller Learning Community by 50 percentage points over 2006 -07 year levels.
