Why do we need a strategic plan for high school reform?

How does the Blueprint for Redesign foster student success?

The plan supports a number of initiatives that are designed to promote student success. Among these efforts, the plan:

• Establishes targets that students must achieve to master the subject matter, be prepared for future studies, and be successful on state assessments, a requirement for graduation from high school;

•  Provides specific support through Smaller Learning Community structures and strategies to increase rigor in coursework and to personalize the learning environment;

•  Uses data on student progress to adjust programs to meet the individual needs of students; and

•  Calls on the entire community - both the parent and business communities - to increase involvement in academic and instructional support for high schools.

Broward County is the 6th largest and one of the most diverse districts in the nation. The Blueprint for High School Redesign provides the framework to ensure that the work of the high schools is data driven and clearly focused on students' success.

Broward County 's redesign initiative unifies the work of all stakeholders and provides action steps to complete our mission. It describes our beliefs, vision and clearly defines our goals. It includes school indicators and benchmarks to monitor progress in the continuous cycle of improvement. Ultimately, It guides the work of the school system and engages the community to improve student achievement.
