Collection and Monitoring of Student Data

Principals at each school designate an ESOL Contact who is responsible for maintaining and updating the records of the ELLs enrolled in the ESOL Program. This person works closely with the Bilingual/ESOL Department, teachers, guidance department, registrar, data processor, parents and when applicable, ESOL paraprofessionals.

Assessment for Placement  

The aural/oral language assessment instruments used in the Broward County Public Schools are:

• Pre-IDEA Oral Language Proficiency Test (Pre-IPT) 4th  Edition – Pre-K 
  (ages 3-5)
• IDEA Oral Language Proficiency Test I (IPT-I) Form G – Grades K - 6
• IDEA Oral Language Proficiency Test II (IPT-II) Form E – Grades 6- 12

A trained assessor at your school will administer the Idea Proficiency Test (IPT). There should be at least one district-trained oral language assessor at each school site. The IPT is also administered in the Spring for progress monitoring.

After students have been administered the IPT, a language proficiency level is determined: Non English Speaker (NES), Limited English Speaker (LES), and Fluent English Speaker (FES).  A District Language Level Classification is assigned such as an A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2, D, or E.
