Spanish

Spanish for high school credit course descriptions


Spanish 1

The student will learn basic skills in order to express feelings, ideas, and opinions in Spanish through oral, reading, and writing activities based on familiar themes.
The course also provides the opportunity to learn about the daily lives and culture of people from various Spanish-speaking countries.


Spanish 2

The student will be able to continue to expand and engage in a communicative environment focused on proficiency – based approach which will enable the student to use the target language (Spanish) in real-life situations.
This course also provides the opportunity to learn and understand the social patterns of the people from various speaking countries.


One high school credit per course will be given based on successful completion. Grades will also count towards student’s GPA.

Spanish for Spanish Speakers 1 7,8
High school level course for credit

This course is for native Spanish speakers or students who function at a similar proficiency level in Spanish.
The objective of this course is to provide a review of the fundamental grammar and culture for students who speak Spanish as a native language, focusing on oral and written communication free from English interference. The content may include, but not be limited to, the reinforcement of the student’s ability to communicate ideas and feelings both orally and in writing, and the development of the comprehension of skills through the study of reading selections. The different cultures of Spanish speaking countries will be studied. Instructor’s approval required.

Spanish for Spanish Speakers II 8
High school level course for credit
The course is for native speakers or students who function at a similar proficiency level in Spanish.
The objective of this course is to reinforce the development of oral and written communication and the studies of the lives and contributions of the well-known Spanish American and Hispanic historical figures, writers, artists, and musicians as reflected in letters, speeches and biographies. Included in this course is practice in descriptions of story characters, real persons, animals and natural phenomena as well as memorization of facts and ideas. Prerequisite: Spanish 1 credit and instructor’s approval.
