BEGINNING BAND
6th and 7th grade

The beginning band is designed for students with limited or nonmusical background. Students will be oriented to all band instruments before they have to make a selection. Students will be instructed on the proper fundamentals and skills necessary to ensure a positive learning experience. Students will develop a basic understanding of music notation and perform two major scales and one octave of their chromatic scale.

INTERMEDIATE BAND
7th and 8th grade

The intermediate band is intended for students who have prior experience with a band instrument. This band will perform medium to difficult music at the grade I and II levels and should prove to be challenging to the students involved. Emphasis will be on developing the skills gained from the beginning band level. Students will perform from memory four major scales and the practical range of their chromatic scale.

ADVANCED BAND
8th grade only
(Director’s approval needed)

This is our highest level band class. The 8th grade band will perform medium to difficult music at the grade II and III levels and should be extremely challenging to all members. Emphasis will be on perfecting musical skills and fundamentals. Students will perform from memory seven major scales and the full range of their chromatic scale.

Students selected for intermediate and advanced bands must attend all
scheduled rehearsals, concerts and perfect all music assigned.

Optional activities all bands may include: All State Auditions, All County Band, All County Jazz Band, Solo and Ensemble Festival, Performance Band, Jazz Band and Marching Band.

GUITAR
8th grade only

The beginning guitar class is designed for those students with limited or nonmusical background. Students will be instructed on the proper fundamentals and skills necessary to ensure a positive learning experience. Students will develop a basic understanding of music notation and chord progressions.

BEGINNING ORCHESTRA
6th and 7th

The beginning band is designed for those students with limited or nonmusical background. Students will be orientated with all orchestra instruments offered prior to the selection of an instrument. Students will be instructed on the proper fundamentals and skills necessary to ensure a positive learning experience. Students will develop a basic understanding of music notation and perform two major scales and one octave of their chromatic scale.
