BEST PRACTICE #4
Scaling Up BEST Practices
CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT
School improvement is based on a continuous improvement model, using research-based accepted best practices, which align with student
achievement needs, insure student progress, and may be revised when appropriate.
|
|
Goals
As evidenced in the SES Band Data, which content area(s) will be the focus for improving student achievement and why was this area chosen?
Based on the SES Band data our school will focus on improving student achievement in science, reading and math. We are also focussing on improving student learning gains for the lowest 25th percrentile. These areas were chosen because students performed significantly below compared to the corresponding scores of others in the SES band.
|
What specific BEST Practice(s) will be implemented or scaled-up to improve teaching and learning in order to increase performance within the SES Band?
The RTI practice will be scaled up to improve student progress and the reading interention hour will be continued.
|
Describe in detail how the BEST Practice(s) will be scaled-up.
The RTI process will be scaled-up to provide earlier identification of students and adaquete implementation of interventions at Tier 2 and Tier 3 levels. All teachers will be retrained in BASIS. In addition, the school will ensure that both teachers and parents are aware of the procedures of the RTI process. Additionally, Every student will participate in a one hour reading intervention for phonics, comprehension, and fluency.
|
What specific school-level progress monitoring data is collected and how often?
We will collect and monitor the following data:
iReady diagnostic-monthly
BSA
BAS-3x a year
Schoolcity (check points)- monthly
|
How does the school ensure the fidelity of students not progressing towards school and district goals?
Administration conducts weekly classroom walkthroughs and students are submitted for Rti to recommend further interventions if needed. Students not making sufficient progress will be submitted for further evaluation.
Our school uses the Multi-Tiered System of Support to provide high quality instruction to all students (Tier 1). For those students who do not meet proficiency on grade level standards, the Collaborative Problem Solving Team uses a problem solving approach to plan interventions and monitor progress. Students are moved to Tier 2 or Tier 3 for more intensive support depending on their individual needs. These supports include small group instruction with a research based intervention. Students are monitored through the use of varied assessments. Student data is collected and shared at an RTI (Response to Intervention) meeting which meets approximately every six to eight weeks for each child. Using the problem solving approach, the team decides the next steps for the student, including continuing the intervention or adjusting it to better meet the child's needs.
|
How does the school ensure that all classroom instruction is accessible to the full range of learners using Universal Designs for Learning (UDL) for effective instructional design (planning) and delivery (teaching)?
All teachers differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students including ESE and ELL students. All classroom centers are differentiated to meet the needs of all student levels. Additionally, supplemental material are made available to enhance student learning.
|
How does the school ensure Tier 1 Standards-Based classroom instruction is being implemented properly and effectively?
To ensure that Tier 1 Standards-Based classroom instruction is being implemented properly, administrators will conduct classroom walk troughs to monitor instructional delivery. Teacher lesson plans are reviewed monthly to insure that Tier 1 grade standards are being taught.
|
Describe texts used for core, supplemental, and intervention programs at each grade level. How does the school ensure students have access to a balance of literary and informational text in a variety of mediums?
The school media center provides students and teachers access to a variety of informational texts to check out and read at home. Students and teachers have access to books online which include informational texts. The reading resource room also offers a variety of informational texts that are used in reading instruction. The school subscribes to Time for Kids or National Geographic for Kids, depending on the grade level, to ensure students at every grade level have access to current events. Teachers have students utilize resources available through SSO and communicate procedures to access these resources at home. Each classroom has a library with books differentiated for all reading levels in the class.
Students in K-5 participate in a daily intervention hour using one of the following programs: Phonics for Reading, Curious about words, Fundations, Quick Reads and Rewards.
|
How does your school implement the Broward County Public Schools Social and Emotional Learning Standards to ensure students are developing social and emotional skills?
At North Fork Elementary we provide students with a safe supportive space and ensures that students are ready and available for deeper learning. On the morning announcements students participate in "mindful momments" activities to get their days started.

The following axtivities support our SEL program: Parent Curriculum nights, Dads bring your child to school day, Career day, Field Day, student of the month, Moms and Muffins, and holiday programs.
