Welcome to Week 6! In this week’s session you will learn about strategies and programs that enhance the creative process. We will highlight the programs that have been the most successful over the years in helping gifted students reach their creative potentials. We will also look at how the invention process mirrors the creative process in its approach to problem solving and innovation. Although you may be unfamiliar with some of the programs and strategies mentioned, you will find all have the following in common:
- students need to identify the problem
- students need to generate many ideas in order to be successful
- students need to cooperate with others in order to resolve a problem
- students create their content/strategies and follow a format to solve a problem
- students need a variety of materials and resources available to solve the problem
- students solve the problem creatively
- an innovative product is created as a result of the process
All educators need to challenge the gifted student! Active learning is necessary in order to move forward in the creative process. Each step builds on the previous one. For example, the mathematician will need to know basic math in order to branch out and discover new formulas, the scientist needs to know the basics of his area of study in order to research and make new discoveries, and the artist/musician needs to have the exposure and basic principles of art/music in order to create something new. The following programs are proven to help gifted children maximize their intellectual potential.
