Week 8 Assignment

In one Word-Processed Document answer the following:

I. Choose one of the five areas of Reading (Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Vocabulary, Comprehension, Fluency) from the Instructional Considerations for ELLs in the Five Areas of Reading and summarize the considerations that teachers must make for English language learners in this area.

II. Locate your grade appropriate Florida Standards for Language Arts and choose one standard (this can be any standard that will allow you to incorporate listening, speaking, reading, and writing practice). Think about assignments/activities that help students to master this standard. You may use activities/strategies suggested in the text, Instructional Considerations for ELLs in the Five Areas of Reading, and/or the Instructional Strategies Matrix also found at esol.browardschools.com in the Best Practices tab. Provide an overview (this does not need to be a full lesson plan) of how you would deliver a lesson(s) for this standard that would incorporate the four modalities of language.

Discuss

Share an activity that teachers use to promote ELLs’ language development.

Post a positive, constructive response to at least one of your online colleague's original postings.

Final Project

Complete your final project.  Upload the word-processed document in the Week 8 Final Project Parts A & B section of Assignments. Upload the completed SIOP Lesson Plan in the Week 8 Final Project Part C section of Assignments.

Post Test

Complete the Post test. The post test can be accessed in Assignments. As part of state mandate for course mastery, a score of 80% or higher must be achieved in order to receive a “Complete” status for this course. Please contact your facilitator immediately with any questions or concerns.
