BOW TIE ORCHESTRA
6th and 7th
The beginning orchestra is designed for those students
with limited or nonmusical background. Students will
be orientated with all orchestra instruments offered
prior to the selection of an instrument. Students will
be instructed on the proper fundamentals and skills
necessary to ensure a positive learning experience.
Students will develop a basic understanding of music
notation and perform two major scales and one octave
of their chromatic scale. They will participate in concerts
at Westglades MS, Winter Fest at the Airport, Honors
Orchestra, Florida Orchestra Association Solo/Ensemble
and other opportunities throughout the year.
ROYAL STRING ORCHESTRA
7th and 8th
The Advanced Royal Strings Orchestra is designed for
those students with experience in the Bow Tie Beginning
Orchestra, a minimum of one year in other school orchestras
or outside Advanced Orchestras. Students will increase
the skill level, use of advanced musical notation and
performance of major scales, arpeggios, the chromatic
scale, bowing techniques, and expressive playing appropriate
to the style of music. They will participate in concerts
at Westglades MS, Winter Fest at the Airport, Honors
Orchestra, Florida Orchestra Association Solo/Ensemble
and other opportunities throughout the year.
BEGINNING
MUSICAL THEATRE 7TH & 8TH GRADE ONLY
Students will study all acting and technical aspects
of the Theatre and Musical Theatre in a yearlong class.
This will include the areas of Theatre history, composers,
lyricists, variety of productions, the technical aspects
of theatre and presentations of monologues, duet acting,
ensemble acting, writing and presenting original scripts,
as well as performing musical solos, duets and ensembles
from Broadway Musicals.
ADVANCED MUSICAL THEATRE
AUDITIONED 7TH AND 8TH grade only
Students with prior theatre and music experience and
who pass the audition will study the American art form
of “The Musical” and “Drama”
in a yearlong class. Emphasis will be placed on the
history, staging, composers, lyricists and the variety
of styles of productions and acting exercises. Students
will experience acting, singing, choreography and the
art of producing and performing a Musical and/or dramatic
production. This production will include elements of
script writing, music compositions, staging, costumes,
lighting and sound.
VOICES OF CHORUS
6TH- 8TH grades
The Voices of Hope Chorus will be offered in all grade
levels as a year long class. Students will enhance their
talents and skills as they are taught according to the
National and Sunshine State
Standards for Choral Music. This sequence of learning
will involve, but not be
limited to the following: proper vocal techniques, good
health habits, unison
and harmonic singing, music theory, stage presence,
sight reading in rhythm
and melody, and musical history. Students will have
an opportunity to
perform at Westglades Middle School, Broward All County
Honors Chorus, All-State, Florida Vocal Association
District XV Music
Performance Assessment, and other performances within
Broward County and in the state of Florida. Students
will learn important life skills in achieving
personal and group goals.
