What elements will be addressed?

The critical elements of MTSS are defined and understood

Professional development and coaching provided to staff

The leadership team facilitates PD on data-based problem-solving

The leadership team facilitates PD on multi-tiered instruction and intervention

Coaching is used to support MTSS implementation

Schedules provide adequate time for training and coaching

Schedules provide adequate time to administer assessments

Schedules provide adequate time for multiple tiers of instruction/interventions

Schedules provide adequate time for data-based problem-solving

Processes, procedures, and decision-rules are established for DBPS

Resources to support MTSS implementation are identified and allocated

Why is it occuring?

Our current teaching staff needs to be properly re-trained in the documentation and implementation of Tier 1 Universal Strategies for students experiencing academic and/or behavior concerns in their classes.

What are we going to do about it?

-The school based PD team will train the entire staff on how to generate academic and behavior RTI referrals in BASIS

-Train the entire staff how to document Tier 1 academic/behavior strategies in BASIS

- Train the staff on a variety of assessment sources they can use to collect progress monitoring data that shows student’s response to their Tier 1 strategies, supports the basis for their concerns, and the potential need for a more intensive intervention

Action Plan

- Collaborate with district RTI personnel (Miriam Gayle) to set up a PD training on an upcoming Professional Study Day to train staff on implementing, monitoring, and documenting Tier 1 strategies in BASIS, creating RTI referrals in BASIS, and uploading supporting data and documentation

- Train staff on best instructional strategies that are highly effective in engaging all students

- Train staff on behavior management strategies that empower them to manage behaviors that are impactful to both the students and teacher

- Share teacher resources for RTI implementation and data collection sources through group share sites such as Sharepoint and the Canvas PD course created by the PD team

How will we monitor and measure our success?

Monitor BASIS to determine if teacher usage is increasing as a result of our PD training. We will also monitor BASIS to ensure each teacher assigned to the RTI referred student has documented at least 3 or more Tier 1 strategies.

What elements will be addressed?

Staff have consensus and engage in MTSS Implementation

Staff are provided data on MTSS fidelity and student outcomes

The infrastructure exists to support family and community engagement

Educators actively engage families in MTSS

Why is it occuring?

Parents are often disconnected from the MTSS process up until the point at which they are referred for an ESE evaluation.

What are we going to do about it?

Meet with the RTI team to find solutions for increasing parent involvement in the MTSS process

Action Plan

  • 1.)  The team will mail school letters to parents inviting them to attend their child’s scheduled RTI meeting and be part of the problem solving process
  • 2.)  For unresponsive, less involved families, the team will give them alternate options to either participate through a phone conference or reschedule for another date they can attend the RTI meeting.
  • 3.)  The team will send parent letters home explaining the RTI process step by step and suggest ways they can support their child’s learning through the process
  • 4.)  Team will send a feedback form home to obtain valuable input from parents that may offer additional insight into the student’s concerns and assist the team in developing appropriate interventions

How will we monitor and measure our success?

We will gauge our success by tracking parent attendance at our RTI conferences, tracking the number of RTI forms that are distributed or mailed home to parents, and monitoring frequency of parent contacts made by the team regarding their individual child and the RTI process.
