Purpose of Plan

  1. Describe where the school is currently, using quantitative data. Include other data if needed, cite the source of the data, (e.g. Data Warehouse)

  2. Describe where the school wants to be (use precise data points), be specific and simply state what you plan to do, using the SMART guidelines in writing your goal statement.

    • Specific
    • Measurable
    • Attainable/Achievable
    • Results-focused, and
    • Time-bound.

The purpose of our attendance plan is decrease chronic absenteeism by 2 percent from 14% to 12%.

2: Section #3: Strategies to be implemented

Unexcused Absences

Classroom teachers and our IMT monitor daily attendance.  It is the teachers responsibility to make a phone call home after a student has been out more than one day without a call into the school.  School letters are generated and sent home to parent after this point to reinforce policy 5.5 and our school expectations for daily attendance.  Once a student receives the 5 unexcused abscences, a 5 day BTIP letter is received and the parent is required to come in and meet with our school counselor/social worker to see if there is a concern or reason for the habitual absences.  Strategies/supports are then put into place to help assist the family. The parent may be asked to sign an attendance agreement. If absences continue, a referral to the social worker is given. After 10 days of unexcused absences in a 90 day period, the family will attend the BTIP meeting and the social worker will continue to support the family.

Excessive Excused Absences
(5 or more in a single month)

Classroom teachers and our IMT monitor daily attendance. If we see a pattern of non-attendance even with calls into the school, we bring in or have a phone conference after 5 absences.  At the conclusion of the meeting, a letter is given to the parent and we request a signature to show proof of our meeting and give them a copy of the expectations and policy.  A follow-up letter is sent as well.  If the pattern contiues, the school counselor/social worker will get involved.  If necessary, we may require a doctor's note to excuse the absence.

Tardiness

Classroom teachers and our IMT monitors tardies.  Parent conference requests, phone calls and letters are sent to parents on a regular basis once a child has received 5 or more tardies per quarter.  We have started to recognize students who are in attendance on a daily basis using incentives. Parents will sign a conference form indicating that they are aware of the expectations.

Excessive Early Sign Out

Our IMT monitors all early sign outs.  Parent conference requests, phone calls, and letters are sent to parents on a regular basis once a child has signed out early more than 5 times per quarter.   Parents will sign a conference form indicating that they are aware of the expectations.

Pattern of Non-Attendance
(Combinaton of the 4 previews strategies)

Classroom teachers and our IMT monitor daily attendance. If we see a pattern of non-attendance even with calls into the school, we bring in or have a phone conference after 5 absences.  At the conclusion of the meeting, a letter is given to the parent and we request a signature to show proof of our meeting and give them a copy of the expectations and policy.  A follow-up letter is also sent as well.  If the pattern contiues, the school counselor/social worker will get involved.  If necessary, we may require a doctor's note to excuse the absence.  We have started to recognize students who are in attendance on a daily basis using incentives.

Chronic Absenteeism

Classroom teachers and our IMT monitor daily attendance. If we see a pattern of non-attendance even with calls into the school, we bring in or have a phone conference after 5 absences.  At the conclusion of the meeting, a letter is given to the parent and we request a signature to show proof of our meeting and give them a copy of the expectations and policy.  A follow-up letter is also sent as well.  If the pattern contiues, the school counselor/social worker will get involved.  If necessary, we may require a doctor's note to excuse the absence.  If the pattern of absence does not improve, our social worker will contact the family and work with them to improve attendance.
