2: Section #3: Strategies to be implemented

Unexcused Absences

As part of our plans for this school year, our attendance committee, will be monitoring closely both excused and unexcused absents.  Unexcused absents will be monitored by the attendance clerk who will keep all the members informed.  Guidance counselors and assistant principal will be contacting parents.  Social worker will follow up with home visits as needed.
In addition teachers will take attendance accurately every day/every period and monitor students attendance and will refer students to Response to Intervention (RTI) as patterns of non attendance are identified.
Announcements and Web site information regarding Attendance Counts promotion will be made throughout the school year.

Excessive Excused Absences
(5 or more in a single month)

Excessive excused absences will be monitored by the attendance clerk. Our social worker will be contacting the parents and making home visits as needed for those who display a pattern of excessive excused absences. In addition, teachers take attendance accurately every day/every period and monitor students attendance and refer students to Response to Intervention (RTI) as patterns on non-attendance are identified.

Tardiness

Tardies, will be monitored by the attendance clerk and classroom teachers. As a pattern of unexcused tardiness is identified, parents will be contacted by the grade level administrator, consequences will be assigned.  In addition, teachers take attendance accurately every day/every period and will be referring students to Response to Intervention (RTI) as patterns of excessive tardieness.

Excessive Early Sign Out

Excessive early sign out is monitored by the front office clerk.  As a pattern of excessive early sign out is identified, parents will be contacted by grade level administrator, guidance will also be notified.

Pattern of Non-Attendance
(Combinaton of the 4 previews strategies)

Patterns on non-attendance will be monitored by guidance, grade level administrator, teachers, social worker, attendance and front office clerks.
As students are identified as having patterns of non attendance, a staff committee member will take action (contact parents, home visits, make recommendations to RtI, etc.).  In addition the assistant principal over attendance will be meeting with those students and parents.

Chronic Absenteeism

Chronic Absenteeism is monitored by the assistant principal over attendcance, the attendance clerk and classroom teachers, counselors and administrators.  Parents of students who exhibit chronic absenteeism will be contacted by the school social worker to provide assistance as needed.
