    • Time-bound.

Strategies To Be Implemented

Describe each strategy and include benchmarks/data points per quarter.

2: Section #1: Plan Type

Plan Type

By June 2017, our chronic absenteeism will decrease from 0.89% to 0.50%. We will be montioring our attendance data closely. In addition, we will revised our tardy, excessive unexcused, and pattern of non-attendance plans. We will collaborate with teachers, guidance, clericals, social worker, and administrative team to implement school-wide processes and procedures for monitoring students' attendance.

2: Section #2: Purpose of Plan/Projection

Purpose of Plan:

The purpose of the plan is to reduce the number of students that are tardy to classes and reduced the number of chronic absenteeism. We hope that this plan will aid in achieveing our goal of reducing our chronic absenteeism to 0.50% for the 2016-2017 school year.

2: Section #3: Strategies to be implemented

Unexcused Absences

Step 1:  Teachers make initial parent contact for students with 3 absences. If contact is unsuccessful, teachers will email Grade Level Guidance Counselor the name of the students that have 3 absences. This email should include the following information:

  • Actual Phone Number Called
  • Date Called
  • Time Called
  • Result of Call Þ Spoke with Parent, Left Voicemail, etc.

Step 2:  Grade Level Guidance Counselor will contact parents and schedule parent conference for administration.

Step 3:  If parent contact was unsuccessful, Grade Level Guidance Counselor will complete a Social Worker Referral via BASIS for a home visit.

Step 4:  Social Worker will inform Grade Level Guidance Counselor the result of home visit.

Step 5:  If home visit is unsuccessful Administrator will then proceed with the withdrawal process for student(s).

Excessive Excused Absences
(5 or more in a single month)

The grade level guidance will contact the parents of any students that has excessive excused absences. The counselor will reiterate the importance of students being in school to receive firsthand instruction from teachers. Moroever, the guidance counselor will try find out why the student is having excessive excused absences.

Tardiness

We have implemented a new school-wide tardy policy. Any student tardy to class, (periods 1-7), will be allowed in class and be subjected to the following:
1st Tardy - Detention written by teacher or issued by security or administration.
2nd Tardy - Detention written by teacher or issued by security or administration.
3rd Tardy - Referral written by teacher to grade level administrator for excessive tardiness.
4th Tardy - Administrative referral will be written for each additional tardy.

For Tardies during 1st Period only after 7:50am:
*Student will report to Internal Suspension, (CAP), for the remiander of the period and will be marked as present in Internal Suspension.
*If a student is Tardy Excused by a parent, they must first report to the front office to receive an excused tardy pass and then proceed to class.
* The Internal Suspension teacher will issue consequences for 3 or more excessive tardies.

Excessive Early Sign Out

The atttendance clerk will notifiy grade level administrator of any students that has 2 or more excessive early sign out in a one week timeframe. The grade level administrator then meets with the parent and student to find out the reason for the excessive early sign out. Moreover, the grade level administrator will remind parent of the early sign out/attendance policy.

Pattern of Non-Attendance
(Combinaton of the 4 previews strategies)

For students displaying a pattern of non-attendance, a parent conference will be scheduled. The parent conference will include the parent, student, guidance counselor, and administrator. During this conference, the parent will be informed that 5 or more absences in a given marking period is an pattern on non-attendance. We will further discuss with the parent the consequences of a student not attending school. Then, we construct a plan that can be implemented to assist montioring the student's attendance.

Chronic Absenteeism

For students that have chronic asbsenteeism, the social worker will make a home visit to find out the nature of the reason why the student is missing some many days from school. From there, a parent conference will be conducted with the parent, student, social worker, and both the grade level guidance couselor and administrator. The goal of the conference is to develop a plan of action that will help to ensure that the student is attending school on a regaulr basis.
