District Databases

   

Online databases have been purchased by the Broward County Public Schools, Learning Resources Department, to assist students in finding reliable information on curricular topics.  All grade levels have access within the school’s wireless network, without the need of a password.  For access to these resources from home, the public library and/or through out of school Internet access, please see the Media Specialist at your school for a list of user names and passwords. 

 


Broward County Schools Online Reference Library Tools

Grolier Online
These resources, which include Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia Online, The New Book of Knowledge, Encyclopedia, Lands and Peoples, Americana Online, and New Book of Popular Science, provide access to encylopedia and magazine articles, news articles, web sites, and multimedia materials.



World Book (Elementary & Middle)
These resources, which include World Book Kids, World Book Online Reference Center, and Estudiantil Hallazhgos en Linea (Spanish encyclopedia), provide access to articles from newspapers, magazines & the encyclopedia; special reports; & multimedia.

The Gale Group
Elementary resources include access to periodical databases, encyclopedias, almanacs, Internet links, and more.

Middle Schools and Centers will have access to magazines, newspapers, reference books, Internet links, a Spanish encyclopedia & more.

High Schools access includes magazines, newspapers, reference books, information on authors & their works, opposing viewpoints, Internet links, a Spanish encyclopedia & more.




Gale Group Professional Collection
All Teachers & Administrators will now be able to access the Professional Collection, which includes 300 titles geared to school principals, curriculum departments, superintendents, and teachers, as well as the resources in the high school collection.
SAVVY Cat
This is a public access catalog for all books and audiovisual materials in Broward County Schools. Entire collections within each of the 227 schools and centers are included in one union catalog database.


TumbleBook Library (Elem, ESE, ESOL)

This online collection offers animated, talking picture books with puzzles, quizzes & teacher resources.


Teaching Books (all levels)

This online collection offers original, in-studio movies of authors and illustrators, audio excerpts of professional book readings, guides to thousands of titles and a wealth of multimedia resources on children's and young adult literature.


Science Reference Center (Mid/High)

These resources include full-text articles from scientific journals & magazines, encyclopedias, reference books, nonfiction books, newspapers, primary source documents, biographies & images..


SIRS Researcher (High Schools)

This general reference database has thousands of full-text articles exploreing social, economic, scientific, health, historic, business, political, and global issues. (Note: Home use requires password.)
