The Digital Education Teacher Academy (DETA) program is a series of staff development opportunities designed to provide teachers with skills for effectively integrating technology.

Participants in DETA use technology to improve student achievement in core curriculum areas; learn strategies for integrating technology that can be incorporated into daily practice; and learn how to use new technologies such as Internet-based curriculum and digital tools. Participants in DETA create lessons or projects demonstrating the integration of digital strategies and resources into core curriculum areas; which then can become a best practice Unit or Lesson in B.E.E.P. We don't want administrators to feel left out and encourage them to sign up for DETA for Administrators.

DETA I and DETA II, 3 hour graduate courses, are part of a professional development partnership between the School Board of Broward County (SBBC) and the Teaching and Leadership Center at Florida Atlantic University (FAU). Both courses are co-taught by FAU professors and SBBC instructors. The School Board pays tuition for Broward County contract teachers. The 3 credits are equivalent to 60 in-service points for recertification.

Successful completion of DETA I is a pre-requisite for taking DETA II

DETA II

Participants of the Digital Education Teacher Academy I (DETA I) will use technology to improve student achievement in the core curriculum areas; learn strategies for integrating technology that can be incorporated into daily practice; and learn how to use new technologies such as Internet-based curriculum and digital tools. Participants in DETA create lessons or projects demonstrating the integration of digital strategies and resources into core curriculum areas, which then can become a best practice Unit or Lesson in B.E.E.P.  Participants will also receive a digital “toolbox” of resources.

Participants of the Digital Education Teacher Academy II (DETA II) will have the opportunity to engage in cooperative, collaborative activities to explore data driven decision-making strategies for integrating multimedia resources into constructivist project-based learning.  This course provides a systematic introduction to the theory and practice related to designing, developing, implementing and assessing multimedia-infused 21st century learning environments for K-12 education.
