Okay, so you
want to schedule a videoconference, great! Here are some helpful hints and
factoids and, of course, who to call in order to prepare and or execute a
successful videoconference. If you were looking for an audio-conference
you are on the wrong flight, so please return to the menu. For the rest of
our passengers please feel free to roam the web page as the captain has
turned off the seat belt sign.
MULTIPOINT CALLS
A
multipoint call is a call with three or more sites connected. To connect
a multipoint call, the use of a bridge is necessary. The School Board of
Broward County utilizes its own bridge. The bridge is a physical piece of
equipment as well as software.
Multipoint calls can be arranged in advance and can be preset so that the
bridge will automatically dial out to the participating sites at a given
time to connect. The call can also be set to disconnect or participants
can opt out or end their connection to the call at any time. We are in the
midst of upgrading our current 32 port (users) bridge to support up to 128
ports (users) using either IP or ISDN connections or a combination of
both.
MANAGEMENT UTILITIES
Utilizing systems management applications, Conferencing Services is able
to remotely manage multipoint videoconferencing calls and their endpoints.
Should a problem arise during a videoconferencing call, the bridge captain
can refocus resources to diagnose and initiate remote support.
Additionally,
this application allows us to continuously monitor the status and well
being of the endpoints and supporting infrastructure. The remote support
functionality can for example reconnect the video call remotely and or
troubleshoot technical issues should they arise. Conferencing
Services can also “push out” new phone directories and software updates
remotely to sites.
Value Added Services:
If
you are doing a point-to-point call that will be done on an on-going
basis, we have software that can be programmed to automatically connect
point-to-point calls. In other words, your point-to-point calls can
be automatically scheduled so that when you walk into the room the
conference call has been dialed and connected.
