What are some tools I can use as an administrator to discuss ethics with staff and review expectations of ethical and professional behaviors?
We are going to look at two tools that administrators can use to look at administrative ethical behavior. The first is a survey that examines different elements of ethical behavior. This tool can be used as a resource for administrators to examine their own perceptions of ethical behavior as well as their faculty and staff’s perceptions of these behaviors. The results of these surveys can be used as a springboard for discussions on ethics and behaviors that should be exhibited by all faculty and staff.
The second resource is a tool that allows administrators to assess their own behaviors, as they relate to ethics. Administrators can use their responses as a means to reflect on their own beliefs and how those beliefs compare to the perceptions of those working in the school.
Another good tool for administrators is the adoption of their own code of personal ethics. Creation of their own code is a good practice in analysis of their behaviors and the behaviors of others. It forces introspection into the behaviors they exhibit and how these behaviors regulate their personal and professional lives.
