Domain 4: Professional and Ethical Behavior
Standard 10: Effective school leaders demonstrate personal and professional behaviors consistent with quality practices in education and as a community leader.

What constitutes Ethical and Professional Behavior?

Ethical behavior is characterized by honesty, fairness and equity in interpersonal, professional, and personal relationships. Ethical behavior is centered on treating individuals and groups with respect and dignity and respecting diversity and diverging viewpoints.

Ethical behavior is comprised of the standards that you hold for yourself. These standards include honesty, responsibility, and how you treat others in all facets of your life. The same standards are applicable to whatever position you hold professionally, within your community, and even behind closed doors when you are alone. Ethical behavior is applying these standards all the time, even when it is inconvenient or difficult to do so.

An ethical administrator is one who consistently conducts him/herself responsibly and who always acts in the best interest of the students at his/her school without concern for personal gain or outcomes. S/he is there to provide the best resources for every student, in every classroom of the school building.
