Essential Question:
How do oceans affect humans and humans affect the ocean?

Project Desciption:
As the host to the District's magnet program in Marine Science, a focus on the ocean was a natural fit. Students research the ocean as it impacts the study of art, chemistry, marine reseach, English, marketing, and government.

Teachers/Classes:
Susan Cafolla (Art): The oceans and sea life have been subjects of artwork for a long time. Students studied various works of art, created their own, and created presentations and videos about the sea's impact on art.

Vera Perkovic (Chemistry): Students research and created presentations and videos on various topics including water quality, acid rain, medicines from coral reefs, and impact on climate.

Monica Ridlehoover (Marine Research): Students research and created presentations and videos on various topics including Oil Spills, pollution, Coral Reef, and overfishing

Jennifer Bard (English): Students studied and create videos and comics describing how seafaring peoples such as the Anglos, Saxons, and Jutes affected the cultures and therefor the literature of Britain.




Michael Chapnick (English): Students stud-ied and creation presentations and videos describing the effects of the sea on mythology.

Cara Daniel (Travel Marketing): Students researched the effects of the ocean on tourism and created videos

Adam Cohen (Government): Legal, social, and political issues connected to the oceans and the environment were studied and videos were created.

Linda Altheide ( (Media Specialist): Assisted student and teachers with research skills and with details about copyright.
