Congratulations to the students who have recently had their essays and poetry published in the Fall 2012 edition of Creative Communication. West Broward had among the highest number of students accepted for publication in this edition.

The World Languages Award Ceremony, with distinguish guest Ms. Patty Good, School Board Member, Vice-Chair District 2.  A total of 43 World Languages Academic Competitors were recognized by Mrs. Louidor, the Academic Competition Coordinator.  Congratulations students!

Students competed in 9 different categories: Declamation, Impromptu, Skit, Talent, New Media, Art, Drama,
We had 4 Best-In Counties, a total of 44 1st places of which 25 obtain a perfect score, 33 2nd places, 11 3rd places, and 2 4th places. Also, each member of the World Language Department, recognized the efforts and accomplishments of 30 additional students: Grace Diaz, Ingrid Mayer, Mauricio Contreras, Yanet Thomas, Wanda Singletary, and Sra. Torraca.

 


Ms. Rice was presented with a $3,000 grant check from Ms. Alicia Pascus, a human resource representative
from the DART Container Sales Company for the formation of a new STEM Physics 1 Class.

 

This past year, BEF awarded over 300 grants to teachers totaling $160,000. Grants were awarded for teacher initiated projects ranging from Art & Drama to projects in science and technology.

Priority is given to programs uniquely designed to do one or more of the following: Educate students in financial literacy, incorporate alternative learning strategies, promote interdisciplinary learning, involve parents, businesses, community organizations and/or social service agencies, bridge culture or ethnic barriers, involve a group of teachers collaborating to improve students learning at their school.

WBHS World Guard is ranked 4th in the

Annabelle volunteers her time by creating opportunities for her peers to obtain community service hours.
She is valuable to students within the school and has caused an increase in our graduation rate.

The West Broward JROTC Bobcat Battalion Drill Team dominated at the Broward County JROTC Drill Championship on Saturday, February 23rd, placing 1st overall
out of 25 schools and qualifying 12 out of 14 eligible teams for the State Championship on April 6th in Lakeland, FL.

The Miami Herald Silver Knights Award is one of the nation's most highly regarded student awards. The purpose to is recognize students with outstanding academic standing, as well as dedication to unselfishly contributing to their schools and community. Each year 15 students from Broward County and 15 students from Miami Dade County are award the Silver Knight as well as a $2,000 scholarship, a Silver Knight statue and a medallion.

 

Congratulations to World Languages teacher and department head, Mrs. Eileen Toracca.  Mrs. Torraca was selected as a Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction, a special program of the National Society of High School Scholars that honors educators worldwide. NSHSS encourages young people around the globe to strive for greatness and to embrace their responsibility as our future world leaders.

Congratulations to West Broward 2012 Falcon Sound Invitational Grand Champion

 

 

  Mr. Alford presented at the Assessment Reactor Panel in Tallahassee, to District Board Members, District Superintendents, University Directors & National Science Teachers Association members. Mr. Alford addressed Superintendent/Business Community reactions towards the Biology EoC cut scores recommendations for the 2012-2013 school year that he worked on with other educators from around the state of Florida.
