The Broward County School District's Teaching and Leadership Center offers a variety of intensive alternative teacher preparation and certification programs designed for mid-career professionals who possess a bachelor’s degree or higher and are transitioning from a previous career to teaching, and recent college graduates who graduated with at least a bachelor’s degree within the past three years in a field other than education.
Graduate level college credit courses leading to professional teacher certification!
- Project PROMISE is designed for:
- prospective and current secondary non-education trained teachers in mathematics, science, Special Education, or English/language arts; and
- current teachers presently teaching social studies or elementary education in a Broward County public school;
- only if availability permits, consideration will also be given to prospective teachers eligible to teach social studies and elementary education.
- This program provides initial preparation through college graduate level courses and professional development to ensure program participants are well trained to enter the classroom and lead students to achieve.
- Successful candidates in this program will be eligible to receive free college graduate level tuition for courses leading to their professional teaching certificate.
- Funded through the U.S. Department of Education's Transition to Teaching Grant initiative.
- Participants will be selected twice per year for a June cohort and for a January cohort.

A competency-based program leading to initial professional certification!
Florida Department of Education approved Competency-Based program providing professional development courses aligned to national standards through face-to-face and online modules, classroom support through mentoring, professional certification, and incentives for furthering an advanced degree.
- IMPACT is designed for:
- current full-time teachers of record presently teaching ESE (Exceptional Student Education/Special Education), English/language arts, mathematics, science, social science, Elementary Education, or foreign languages; and
- prospective non-education trained individuals eligible to teach secondary mathematics or the sciences, aspiring to teach in a high-need school.
- This competency-based program provides professional development courses leading to professional certification and activities to ensure program participants are well trained to lead student achievement.
- Funded through the U.S. Department of Education's Transition to Teaching Grant initiative.
- Participants will be selected twice per year for a Summer Cohort and for a Winter Cohort.
