Requirements for Substitute Teachers have changed significantly as a result of Legislative Mandates and program assessments. New substitute teachers must now possess teaching or substituting experience or a completed education degree or completed substitute teaching training, before they can begin to substitute. All new substitute teachers must also attend a Mandatory Substitute Teacher Orientation presented by the district, before working. The focus of these changes is not to only employ experienced and/or trained substitutes, but to insure that students always have a quality substitute in the absence of their teacher. These new requirements also provide individuals, without experience in the classroom, the fundamental tools and resources needed to become an effective teacher, whether as a substitute or full time.
