Professional Learning Facilitator
Professional Development Standards and Support, Office of Academics, and Office of School Performance and Accountability are seeking applicants who are interested in becoming content experts and professional learning facilitators in the Broward County School System. All teachers who are interested in facilitating professional development both online and face to face need to review the requirements and complete the application below. This includes those teachers who are currently or who have previously facilitated PD for the District and are interested in continuing to serve in that capacity.

Coursera's New Teacher Center Courses
First Year Teaching: Success From the Start - Success with your students starts on Day 1. Establishing new teachers' footing from the get-go is as important to developing key skills as it is to ensuring their students' success. New Teacher Center is offering two free MOOCs (Massive Online Open Courses) through Coursera that will allow beginning teachers to leverage strategies, resources, and support for professional growth. The courses, titled First Year Teaching: Success From the Start, are offered for both Elementary (grades K-6) and Secondary (Grades 6-12) beginning teachers. Each present research-based strategies in the following areas:
- Setting and communicating high expectations for students
- Building positive relationships with and between students
- Organizing the learning environment Behavioral preventions and interventions
- Establishing and maintaining routines and procedures that support student learning
Courses include 2-3 hours of rich On-Demand video content, including multiple classroom-specific video examples. Certificates of completion will be presented when concluding the course.
New Teacher Academy 2016 Classes
The New Teacher Academy (NTA) is a high quality professional learning event designed collaboratively by Teacher Professional Learning and Growth, Instruction and Interventions Department and Instructional Technology. The NTA is a four-day intensive quality professional learning opportunity designed for new educators and teachers new to Broward County Public Schools. NTA provides new educators with effective educational practices through the Marzano Art of Teaching Framework exploration of the Florida Common Core State Standards and its implementation in the classroom. Teachers will also learn classroom management strategies, professionalism practices and technology integration to make their initial classroom experience successful, positive and rewarding.
