TEEN PARENT - HOME SCHOOL PROGRAM

 

The philosophy of the Teen Parent Program is that dropout prevention is best achieved through the provision of academic and socio-emotional supports. Pregnant and parenting students have the option of remaining in their home schools and receiving limited support by an assigned Teen Parent Social Worker and other support persons or by attending a teen parent center. The purpose of these services is to offer academic alternatives and adjustment and enabling techniques through counseling to insure a secure future for the students and child.

The Home School Services program utilizes area-based specialized social workers to deliver the following services to support the student’s academic achievement and school graduation:

 

  1. Socio-emotional and family assessment
  2. Individual, group and family counseling
  3. Case management
  4. Family support services
  5. Coordination and consultation with medical, childcare, social services and mental health agencies
  6. Referrals are readily made to community –based agencies to assist the students and their families.
  7. Educational counseling
  8. Parent education
  9. Vocational and crisis counseling are coordinated at the school site
  10. Pregnancy prevention education at both the middle school levels
  11. “Fathers Matter” – Father involvement initiative
  12. WalkAware-an annual awareness /prevention activity that invites students and community partners to dialogue and exchange information to assist youth in making wholesome, responsible decisions about their sexual behaviors.

 

Eligibility: Pregnant or parenting persons of legal school age are eligible for these services. Written confirmation of pregnancy is required for most services.
