ABOUT US
Guided by a personal awareness of the struggles
of military families personnel, this school social worker has
creatively developed a program to identify students in schools
who have parents who are either deployed for active military
duty or are returning to the community following tours of duty.
These services assist in identifying students of military
families and assist them in accessing access community
resources to respond to the challenges of meeting the
educational and socio-emotional needs of these children and
their families.
The Embracing Military Personnel and Families Program is an
innovative, dynamic approach to support service men and women
and their families during the difficult time of readiness for
deployment, during deployment, and their transition back home
from Afghanistan or Iraq. At the same time, this program gives
the opportunity to our soldiers to get involved in the community
and reintegrate after war.
The program also gives the non-military community
different opportunities to show their appreciation and become
committed citizens.
Our program is the product of a partnership between The Family
Readiness Team, Alpha Unit, Inc., which is a nonprofit
organization, and the Department of Student Support Services of
the Broward County Public School System.
