About Child Find Services

  • Assists in locating, identifying, and obtaining services for children who have disabilities or special needs.

  • Uses the Children's Registry and Information System (CHRIS) for tracking and service coordination.

  • Promotes public awareness of services for children and youth who have disabilities.

  • Screens children and youth to determine if they need to be formally evaluated.

  • Provides coordination, training, and support to assist service providers in evaluating children and youth.

The goal of Child find is to assure that all children, 0 through 21, who need special education and related services, receive a free appropriate education. Child Find is the entry point for ESE services for birth-to-five-year-old children and their families in Broward County.

Children ages birth to three, who are in need of Early Steps services, are referred for Part C Services. These services are for infants and toddlers who have disabilities or developmental delays, and their families.
To view the entire referral and evaluation process,  click here for Your Journey Through EARLY STEPS

Child Find also provides free screenings for children ages 3-5 who may have special needs. The screenings are coordinated with the area preschool assessment teams.
The screening results may indicate a need for further evaluation and will assist in the determination of program need. To view the entire referral and evaluation process, click here for the Road through CHILD FIND
