Just for Parents Online Community The Florida Department of Education knows how important it is to communicate directly with students, parents, teachers, and the community about important education issues.  The Department has launched the Just for Parents Online Community at and invites you to join parents from across the state to hear from us through a monthly newsletter, blogs, and weekly Common Core Blast Off Tips of the Week.  We are dedicated to keeping parents informed and we encourage you to sign up and share this with your friends and family.

Each year, the Florida Department of Education (FDOE) surveys parents of children with an individual educational plan (IEP) to determine how well your child’s school is partnering with you and promoting your involvement in your child’s education. All states must collect this data as part of their State Performance Plan, as required under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).   The web-based survey will open February 1 to May 31, 2014. You can complete the survey online at or request a paper survey from your child’s school. Your feedback is important in helping the state and local school systems continue improving educational programs for children with special needs. Thank you!

The HOT DOCS (Helping Our Toddlers, Developing Our Children's Skills) 7-week parent workshop evening series begins on January 13, 2015.  This workshop series focuses on behavior issues.  All parents are welcome to attend.  No registration required.  For more information go to

The Florida Department of Education recognizes November as Parental Involvement in Education Month, highlighting the many ways families can engage in their students’ academic success.  Submit your 2 minute video by uploading your video to Youtube and then tweeting the video link to @educationfl or posting the video on the department’s Facebook page by Sunday, November 23, 2014.  The winner will receive a family four-pack of tickets to LEGOLAND® Florida Resort or Wet ‘n Wild Orlando. Finalists will receive “family game night” baskets.
