In 2003, Broward County Public Schools partnered with the Environmental Protection Agency to implement the Tools for Schools Program. Tools for Schools (TfS) provides a systematic approach to dealing with Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) concerns at each participating location. The program features practical actions that can easily be carried out by a school's staff. Each year, staff from TfS sites attend a kick-off training and complete online room surveys to identify potentional IAQ concerns. The IAQ Assessment Team conducts validation walkthroughs to confirm identified concerns. Corrective actions are then implemented and summary reports are generated. Often, IAQ concerns raised by occupants can be easily resolved by the location before involvement from other departments (such as Facilities and Construction Management or Physical Plant Operations) is needed. Our Response Protocol contains a detailed checklist for troubleshooting these concerns as well as the operational procedures for addressing issues that cannot be resolved by the location. In addition, the Response Protocol provides an escalation process to ensure identified issues have been satisfactorily resolved. |
