PINES MIDDLE SCHOOL IS A FOUNDATIONS SCHOOL
Save and Civil Logo

From the Florida Department of Education:

Dear Parent/Guardian:

Broward County school district is a district in corrective action based on Federal requirements. This means that the district did not meet one of more Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) goals for 4 or more consecutive years. Adequate Yearly Progress measures the performance of all students and specific student groups based on race/ethnicity, lunch status, disabiity, and English proficiency.

To make AYP, a certain percentage of students in each group must meet the goals on state tests in reading, writing and mathematics. If one student group does not meet the goal, the entire school district does not meet AYP. This does not mean the school district is failing; it means that certain areas need improvement.

The table below shows how our school district compares to others in the state:

Guidance counselors provide valuable information for students who might be struggling with life choices, family issues and academic success. They counsel students individually or sometimes in small groups. The Guidance Department is an excellent resource for you and your child. Please Report changes (social/emotional/physical) to school.

To schedule a parent conference you must call your grade level administrator's secretary. See directory above for telephone numbers.

PICK-UP AND DROP-OFF IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Parents and Guardians:

Please be advised that you should NOT drop off your child on any of the roads around Pines Middle at any time; whether it is in the scope of a school crossing guard or not. You should always use the parent drop-off and pick-up loop in the front of the school. The City of Pembroke Pines Police Department has been alerted and will start enforcing this type of activity. We want every student and adult to be safe at Pines!

Please enter and exit from DOUGLAS RD and follow the loop around for student Drop-off and Pick-up. Follow the directional and stop signs. Keep traffic in a single lane. Pull to the most forward position when droppng your child off so that we can quickly accommodate as many vehicles as possible. Do not park your vehicle in the loop. Be courteous to your fellow loop users. They are trying to accomplish the same thing you are. Parents: WALGREEN'S is not a student pick-up or drop off place! Please use the parent loop in front of the school!

SUMMER READING - VERY IMPORTANT - YOU DON'T USE IT, YOU CAN LOSE IT!

All students who were enrolled in ReadingPlus this year can still access and can use the program from any computer with Internet access. The program will be available all summer. Please use it often. Don't let your reading comprehension and fluency skills slip.

VIsit the following site for a list of great books on all types of subjects that you can read during the summer break..

www.justreadflorida.com

The books are organized by grade levels and Lexile measures.

Some books have a Lexile code, a two-letter designation before the Lexile measure that provides more information about its developmental appropriateness, reading difficulty and common or intended usage. Check it out!

PARENTS: THE AGENDA/PLANNER CAN BE YOUR FRIEND! And DON'T FORGET THE AMAZING PINNACLE!

We encourage all parents/guardians to check your child's planner/agenda book on a daily basis. Not only can you stay current on assignments, projects, tests & quizzes that are upcoming and due, but you can use it to communicate with your child's teacher(s) as well.

Of course, PINNACLE is available 24/7 with any Internet connection. PINNACLE, which gives you access to grades, teachers and absences/tardies, all the time from anywhere, can be your "Best Friend". While you're on PINNACLE, sign up for the Parent Notifier to receive emails when your child is absent and if his/her grade drops! All you need is your child's ID number. Remember the password is your child's birthday, with the 4 digit year first. Example, if born on March 5, 1996, the password would be: 19960305. Simply click on the link to PINNACLE on the gray bar at the top of this page!

Attention ESE Parents!

The annual Parent Survey indicating how well schools are supporting parents' involvement in their child's education can now be accessed. To access and complete the survey, log on to www.ESESurvey.com. If you are unable to complete an online survey, please request a paper survey from Pines Middle. The parent survey allows you to provide meaningful feedback to the Florida Department of Education concerning educational services your child is receiving. Remember, the parent survey is ONLY for parents of students with disabilities in grades prekindergarten through 12th grade.
