Title I Requirements

COMPREHENSIVE NEEDS ASSESSMENT of the entire school (including the needs of migrant children) with information about the academic achievement of children in relation to the state academic content standards.
Describe the process utilized to conduct the comprehensive needs assessment for this school.

Prior year assessment scores are available to all teachers and administrators.  Individual teacher, grade level and school wide results were also shared with teachers in the first week of school. Individual student results were given to classroom teachers for their review.

A parent survey is sent home each spring to gather input from parents. Results from this survey are used to help write goals and objectives for the school.

Parents are invited to meet with administration to discuss student achievement results and strategies for improving scores. Suggestions are discussed with staff and considered for inclusion in school wide plans.

The district's Talent Acquisition & Operations department, as well as a district level Teacher Recruitment Committee work collaboratively to retain and recruit highly qualified, certified-in-field, educators. New Renaissance Middle School’s collaboration with the district is evidenced by participation in Teacher Recruitment Fairs. Vacancies are filled with eligible candidates at Recruitment Fairs. Retention of teachers is a top priority of our school. Teachers are are assigned buddies and mentors at New Renaissance Middle School to ensure they grow professionally. We retain highly qualified, certified-in-field, effective teachers in our school by utilizing the Teacher Induction for Effectiveness and Retention program (T.I.E.R.), Professional Learning Communities, District Trainings, School-Based Professional Development, Teacher Recognition and Incentives.

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS - Coordination and Integration

Title I, Part A
Title I funds provide additional teachers to assist students, particularly low performing students.

Staff Development funds are used to develop a comprehensive professional training program with a variety of options to help teachers improve instruction.

Parental Involvement funds are utilized to fund academic parent nights that provide parents with new skills to support student learning at home. Monies are used to purchase supplies/materials and provide stipends for teacher presenters.

Title I, Part C- Migrant
(Migrant-Title I schools have been advised if Migrant students attend their school)

No migrant students have been identified at New Renaissance Middle School at this time. Collaboration with community agencies will take place to ensure that needed services such as health and nutrition are provided when and if students are identified. Remediation and tutoring services will be provided as needed.

Title I, Part D
Neglected and Delinquent

Students identified as neglected and/or delinquent will be connected to a school social worker and family counselor who will provide support and community resources.

Title II
(District professional development)

Teachers participate in professional development linked to improved student achievement in the Florida State Standards.

Title III
(ESOL)

English Language Learners (ELL) receive reading and developmental language arts instruction by a certified ESOL and reading teacher.  They receive additional support from an ESOL aid who provides assistance with our Haitian-Creole students in their mainstream classes.  

Title X- Homeless
(Homeless- All Title I schools may complete with this statement)

Teachers and staff members are responsible for helping to identify homeless students and referring them to the Homeless Education program offered by the district. The purpose of the Homeless Education Program is to identify homeless students, remove barriers to their education, including school enrollment, provide them with supplemental academic and counseling case management services as well as linkages to their school social worker while maintaining school as the students stable environment.

Supplemental Academic Instruction (SAI)

SAI funds will be utilized to fund twenty weeks of Saturday Academies to assist struggling students.  

Violence Prevention Programs

New Renaissance Middle School implements the Broward County Code of Conduct and follows the District Discipline Matrix.  Our school enforces the District's Anti-Bullying Policy and has a zero tolerance for bullying and violence. Bullying prevention programs are supported through Peer Counseling, conflict mediation, guest speakers and student assemblies.  

Nutrition Programs

Nutritional programs and health education are a part of our school, specifically through the Physical Educational curriculum and federal initiatives of the Broward County Public Schools Food & Nutrition Department.

Housing Programs

Referrals are made to the school social worker, when parents are in need of housing or food.  Additionally, all staff members take note of families expressing a need and passes this information on to administration and/or the school counselor.  New Renaissance Middle also participates in the annual Harvest Drive to help supply food to those who need it during the holidays.

Head Start

Currently this program is not available at New Renaissance Middle School.

Adult Education

Currently this program is not available at New Renaissance Middle School.

Career and Technical Education

Technical education is embedded throughout the curriculum across all disciplines. Selected students will receive middle school Microsoft certification upon completion of three years at New Renaissance Middle School and will then continue with this program when they enter Miramar High School.

Job Training

Students work through rigorous curriculum and use technology to build skills and research and experience different career fields, and colleges and universities using Naviance.  Eighth grade students participate in an annual trip to Junior Achievement (JA) Finance Park to explore different career options and receive minor training in selected fields.

Other

New Renaissance Middle School is in our second year of implementation of the International Baccalaureate Program.  Students in all three grade levels have the opportunity to participate in the IB program each year.

The goal for New Renaissance Middle School is to increase overall parental involvement to at least 40% for the 2018-2019 school year.  Parent involvement activities will include engaging activities that offer opportunities to learn about student achievement and available resources.

Anti-Bullying and Progress Minotoring Parent Night

School Board of Broward County Anti-BUllying policies and procedures will be reviewed with parents and students during the parent night.  Parents will also be trained in the Broward SSO and the resources offered by the county through this valuable resource.  Parents will be instructed on the use of Pinnacle to trakc grades and attendance for their child.  Directions for setting up Pinnacle alerts for parents will also be shared at the parent night.
