Title I Requirements
COMPREHENSIVE NEEDS ASSESSMENT of the entire school (including the needs of migrant children) with information about the academic achievement of children in relation to the state academic content standards.
Describe the process utilized to conduct the comprehensive needs assessment for this school.
1.) All students identified by the early warning system will receive tiered interventions through the Multi-Tiered System of Supports in Leveled Literacy
Intervention (LLI) and Fundations, where appropriate. They will also receive additional support by the school's reading interventionists and math
interventionists using LLI, Fundations, and the Go Math Reteach.
2.) All students identified as performing in the lowest quartile (2nd - 5th) will participate in the Academic Success Program. This is a joint collaboration with
Broward College, through which students will receive tutoring in Math using the Math in Practice resource.
3.) All students identified as performing in the lowest quartile (2nd - 5th) will be closely monitored by the school's leadership team using the Student Success
Binder on a quarterly basis to review student academic progress in ELA and Math. Instructional coaches, Reading Interventionists will use the data to support
grade levels individual teachers with support strategies, as well as provide targeted small group instruction.
4.) All students identified by the early warning system will participate in Rock Island's Check In Check Out program and receive small group counseling
sessions as identified by the School Counselor. The School Counselor and RtI:B team will assist teachers with behavioral interventions.
5.) All student's academic progress will be monitored using School City, i-Ready Standard's Mastery, Benchmark Assessment System, and performance
based tasks on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis. Quarterly parent meetings will be held to inform parents of students academic progress, provide
parents with academic strategies for the home.
6.) All students will be monitored closely during weekly Professional Learning Communities by classroom teachers and remediation activities identified for
them.
7.) All students will participate in Rock Island's attendance initiative led by the Community Liasion, Information Management Technician, and Social Worker. Students who are present for the entire month and have no tardies recorded, will receive a monthly incentive.
8.) All students will participate in extended day instruction in Literacy (60 minutes).
9.) Instructional Coaches, Reading Interventionists, & Literacy Consultant support grade levels and individual teachers with instructional strategies.
10.) On-going professional development per grade level on multi-tiered strategies and support.
11.) Parent and Teacher meetings to support the home/school connection and updated reports to parents on a quarterly basis using the Student Success
Academic Binder.
12.) Teachers will receive ongoing professional development on the multi-tiered system of supports, problem identification, and data-based problem solving to identify appropriate Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions, progress monitor, and assess student progress.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS - Coordination and Integration
Title I, Part A
Title I funds provide additional teachers to assist students, particularly low performing students.
Teachers have had training on Engaging the Learner and ongoing school-wide training on increasing literacy for at risk children. Every month Title 1 nights
are planned to involve parents in learning more on how they can support their children with at home learning. Literacy nights are held at the local library
and math/science night will be held on campus.

(ESOL)
Rock Island currently has about 90 ESOL students. We have an ESOL specialist who provides language support to the ESOL students. All teachers employ
ESOL certified and infuse the ESOL strategies into their lesson plans and academic learning activities to meet the needs of our ESOL students. Strategic staff
are used to help translate for our Creole and Hispanic populations.

Title X- Homeless

To support our homeless families we have hired a full-time school social worker and community liaison. Together they provide families with food, clothes,
shelter, medical and other social services. We also coordinate with many non-profit organizations to provide our families support during the holidays. Food
baskets are given out during Thanksgiving and gifts during Christmas.
Teachers also closely monitored students during morning SEL circle to determine if students have become homeless throughout the school year. If a new
homeless student is identified the name is referred to the social worker and community liaison for futher investigation.

Supplemental Academic Instruction (SAI)
Rock Island offers Rocket Academy as SAI. Students in the lowest quartile are invited to attend Rocket Academy from January to March. 21st Century and YMCA also provide
addiitional academic support to our most fragile populations.

Violence Prevention Programs
Positive School Behavior Plan is implemented school-wide using LEAPS lessons. PEACEBE is utlized in grade K-2 to teach positive behavior and reduce
violent interactions between students.
Small Group instruction is provide by school counselor which includes: ART Aggression Replacement Training is an evidence based program that is shown to
decrease violent incidents 55%, Choose Peace Day, and Conflict Mediation. The guidance counselor will be hosting a kindness challenge in January to
continue reinforcing violence prevention.
We also have school safety guards that help remind students the importance of positive behavior and a morning pledge that is stated every day on the
annoucements to encourage positive social interactions.

Nutrition Programs
Free and Reduced Lunch is in accordance with federal guidelines. Afterschool programs also provide dinner and snack for students.

Rock Island currently has 30 students enrolled in head start. These students follow a standard school day schedule and are learning fundamental reading,
writing, and math skills. There are two classes and each class has two aids that provides support to the lead teacher.

Rock Island services 1 complete class of Specialized PreK ESE (formerly Preschool Learning Activities Classroom Experience- PLACE), one Head Start class, and one class that is half integrated and half head start. The teachers conduct vertical articulation meetings throughout the school year to ensure that the transition from early childhood programs to kindergarten is smooth. A Kindergarten Orientation is also held prior to the beginning of the school year. This gives the incoming kindergaten students an opportunity to meet their new teacher and get acclimated to their classroom. Additionally, parent are given an overview of the kindergarten curriculum and expectations.
