Title I Requirements

COMPREHENSIVE NEEDS ASSESSMENT of the entire school (including the needs of migrant children) with information about the academic achievement of children in relation to the state academic content standards.
Describe the process utilized to conduct the comprehensive needs assessment for this school.

Prior-year assessment data from the FSA (Florida Standards Assessment) and EOC data and current common assessment data were organized with graphs, tables, and charts. Information was organized to show individual teacher, grade level, and school wide results. Staff collaborated to determine successes and barriers to academic achievement during Professional Learning Communities. Parents were also given the opportunity to share and collaborate on successes and barriers to achievement at our school. Parent survey was administered online in the spring of last year to help determine school needs.

The district's Human Resources and Staff Development departments, as well as a district level Teacher Recruitment Committee work collaboratively to retain and recruit highly qualified, certified-in-field, effective teachers. The district also has a website used to attract teachers to Broward County based upon regional perks, "Teach Near the Beach" and opportunities to receive benefits beyond a paycheck. Lyons Creek Middle School’s collaboration with the district is evidenced by participation in Broward Teacher Recruitment Fairs. Vacancies are filled with candidates interviewed at the recruitment fair and referred by the district's instructional staffing department. Retention of teachers is a top priority of our school. Teachers are cultivated and nurtured at Lyons Creek Middle School to grow professionally. We retain highly qualified, certified-in-field, effective teachers in our school by utilizing the New Educator Support System (NESS Liaison), Professional Learning Communities, District Training , School-Based Professional Development, Teacher Recognition and Incentives.

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS - Coordination and Integration

Title I, Part A
Title I funds provide additional teachers to assist students, particularly low performing students.

Title 1 funds are used to hire additional teachers. Parent Involvement funds are used for parent trainings. Agenda books are also purchased for each student to utilize as a communication tool for parents and teachers, as well as an organizational tool for students.Title I funds will be used to provide double dosing intervention programs to low performing students through HELP Academy. Staff development funds are used to develop a professional program to improve instruction. 

Title I, Part C- Migrant
(Migrant-Title I schools have been advised if Migrant students attend their school)

Lyons Creek Middle School does have migrant students. Migrant students parents are provided resources to ensure that needed services such as health and nutrition are provided. Remediation and tutoring services will be provided as needed. The student was also provided with a backpack and school supplies if needed. 

Title I, Part D
Neglected and Delinquent

Students identified as neglected and/or delinquent will be connected to our school social worker through the Student Services Department who will provide support and community resources.

Title II
(District professional development)

Lyons Creek Middle School teachers participate in district-developed workshops on the Florida State Standards, College and Career Readiness, and Learning Goals and Scales.

Title III
(ESOL)

ELL students receive reading and developmental language arts instruction by a certified ESOL teacher. The Title III funds allow our school to purchase materials for the ELL students to assist in their education. Title III also provide funds for a DLA teacher and paraprofessional.  Lyons Creek Middle School will provide HELP Academy  twice a week to support our ESOL students.

Title X- Homeless
(Homeless- All Title I schools may complete with this statement)

Teachers and staff members are responsible for helping to identify homeless students and referring them to the Homeless Education program offered by the district. The purpose of the Homeless Education Program is to identify homeless students, remove barriers to their education, including school enrollment, and provide them with supplemental academic and counseling case management services as well as linkages to their school social worker while maintaining school as the students’ stable environment.

Supplemental Academic Instruction (SAI)

Lyons Creek Middle School does not receive SAI funds. 

Violence Prevention Programs

Lyons Creek Middle School implements the County Student Code of Conduct and follows the District Discipline Matrix. Our school enforces the District’s Anti-Bullying Policy and has a zero tolerance for bullying and violence. Bullying prevention programs are also supported through Peer Counseling/Conflict Mediation programs, guest speakers and student assemblies. LCMS also implements a Positive Behavior Plan and a Be a H.E.R.O program. 

Nutrition Programs

Nutritional programs and health education are an integral part of our Unified Arts Program, specifically through the Physical Educational curriculum. Lyons Creek Middle School has a health course which is now year-round and has incorporated a nutrition unit within curriculum.’ Referrals are made to the school social worker, when parents are in need of housing or food.

Head Start

Lyons Creek Middle School does not have a Head Start Program.

Adult Education

Lyons Creek Middle School does not offer am Adult Education Program. 

Career and Technical Education

Lyons Creek Middle school provide several programs such as:

1. Internet Business Associate (IBA)

A high school credit class in which students complete CIW’s, the industry leader in adult certification and development, IBA curriculum and have the opportunity to take the Industry Certification Exam by successfully completing the course.

2. Information Communication Technology (ICT)

A 7th and 8th grade class in which the curriculum focuses with an emphasis on Multimedia, digital graphic software, presentation software, cloud computing, cyber security, safety and ethics. Students test for digital tools which transfer with them to high school.

3. Robotics & Engineering

Students work towards receiving digital tool certificates.
 

Linking Education and Employment Outcomes (LEEO)

The program scaffolds computer instruction and employability skills to ensure students will become proficient in a specified technological area and acquire the skills necessary to compete in a global society. Students will receive “Industry Certification in Microsoft Office.”
