Title I Requirements

COMPREHENSIVE NEEDS ASSESSMENT of the entire school (including the needs of migrant children) with information about the academic achievement of children in relation to the state academic content standards.
Describe the process utilized to conduct the comprehensive needs assessment for this school.

Winston Park Elementary will involve parents through an Annual Title 1 public meetings, monthly SAC meetings, PTA Meetings and Activites. Parent Link, Parent -Teacher Conferences, Parent Surveys, Family Nights, and Our School Website. SAC meeetings will provide parents with a vehicle for input into how parental involvement funds are used. Title 1 funds will be decided upon at SAC meetings for programs or materials needed as listed by the School Improvement Plan. In order to determine the needs of the school we provided parents the Title 1 survey the results of this survey help create the proffessional development for teachers and parents for the upcoming school year in addition feedback forms from trainings are used to determine the needs of the community.

The district's Human Resources and Staff Development departments, as well as a district level Teacher Recruitment Committee work collaboratively to retain and recruit highly qualified , certified-in-field, effective teachers. The district also has a website used to attract teachers to Broward County based upon regional perks, "Teach Near the Beach" and opportunities to receive benefits beyond a paycheck. Winston Park Elementary's collaboration with the district is evidenced by participation in Broward Teacher Recruitment Fairs. Vacancies are filled with candidates interviewed at the recruitment fair and referred by the district's instructional staffing department. Retention of teachers is a top priority of our school. Teachers are cultivated and nurtured at Winston Park to grow professionally. We retain highly qualified, certified-in-field, effective teachers in our school by utilizing the New Educator Support System (NESS Liaison), Professional Learning Communities (Reading Coach), District Trainings (District Personnel), School-Based Professional Development (Leadership Team / Team Leaders), Teacher Recognition and Incentives (Administration).

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS - Coordination and Integration

Title I, Part A
Title I funds provide additional teachers to assist students, particularly low performing students.

Staff Development funds are used to develop a comprehensive professional training program to improve delivery of instruction through a variety of workshops designed to move teachers to mastery and improve student achievement.

Parental Involvement funds are utilized to fund monthly academic parent nights that provide parents with new skills to support student learning at home. Improving the frequency and quality of family participation and increasing family literacy are also goals of our parental involvement component. Monies are used to purchase food, supplies/materials and provide stipends for teacher presenters.

Curriculum Family Nights will be offered throughout the year to assist parents in learning how to help their child/ family
Teachers will send home resource information and literature to provide additional ways on how parents can help their child learn new skills.
Teachers will send home Interim Reports and Report Cards to provide information on how students are performing and progressing academically and behaviorally.

Title I, Part C- Migrant
(Migrant-Title I schools have been advised if Migrant students attend their school)

Parents will always have accessibility to all important school information via our newsletters, notices sent home, and our School and PTA Websites. Important letters will be sent home in English , (if needed, Creole, Portuguese, and Spanish to ensure that limited - English parents are kept informed). The PTA will provide monthly activities for classroom teachers to be shared with parents and with students. Our Guidance Counselor will offer Parent- Enrichment resources, and Team leaders will meet to developed strategies to increase parental involvement.
There are no migrant students enrolled at Winston Park Elementary at this time. However, Collaboration with community agencies will take place to ensure that needed services such as health and nutrition are provided. Remediation and tutoring services will be provided as needed. 

Title I, Part D
Neglected and Delinquent

Students identified as neglected and/or delinquent will be connected to a school social worker through the Student Services Department who will provide support and community resources.

Teachers are required to watch a webinar on negligence and complete an assessment annually .
Teachers are required to follow state mandated requirements when reporting and incident. 

Title II
(District professional development)

Teachers participate in professional development linked to improved student achievement on the Florida State Standards.

Title III
(ESOL)

The language development of our ESOL students is supported through the use of research based instructional strategies.  The WIDA Language standards are embedded across our curriculum content areas.  Students are also supported through technology based programs including InSync and Iready. ELL students receive reading and developmental language arts instruction by a certified ESOL teacher. Title III funds are utilized to purchase materials and provide Extended Learning Opportunities to ELL students.

Title X- Homeless
(Homeless- All Title I schools may complete with this statement)

Teachers and staff members are responsible for helping to identify homeless students and referring them to the Homeless Education program offered by the district. The purpose of the Homeless Education Program is to identify homeless students, remove barriers to their education, including school enrollment, provide them with supplemental academic and counseling case management services as well as linkages to their school social worker while maintaining school as the students stable environment.

Supplemental Academic Instruction (SAI)

SAI funds will be utilized to fund additional services, before or after school for fragile students.

Violence Prevention Programs

Winston Park Elementary implements the County Student Code of Conduct and follows the District Discipline Matrix. Our school enforces the District’s Anti-Bullying Policy and has a zero tolerance for bullying and violence.

Nutritional programs and health education are an integral part of our Unified Arts Program, specifically through the Physical Educational curriculum.

Housing Programs

Referrals are made to the school social worker, when parents are in need of housing or food.  Additionally, the front office staff takes note of families expressing a need and passes this information on to administration and/or the guidance counselor and social worker.

Head Start

Winston Park Elementary does not have a Head Start program but we have two PreK ESE classes.

Adult Education

Parents and other adults of the community requesting ESOL, GED, or other continuing education programs are referred to the district's community school for services through our school social worker.

Career and Technical Education

All fifth grade students will receive instruction through the Junior Achievement Biztown Program.

Job Training

Through the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) students work through rigorous curriculum and use technology to build skills and also research and experience different career fields, and colleges and universities.

Other

Read For The Record- County-Approved volunteers visited Pre-K and Kindergarten classes to read pre-assigned book.One copy of the book provided to each Pre-K student . One book was provided to each kindergarten classroom teacher.

 

Pre-School Transition

Pre-School Transition

Winston Park Elementary services two classes of Specialized PreK ESE (formerly Preschool Learning Activities Classroom Experience-PLACE). The teachers conduct vertical articulation meetings during the school year to ensure that the transition from the early childhood programs to kindergarten program is smooth. A Kindergarten Orientation is also held prior to the beginning of the school year. This gives the incoming kindergarten students an opportunity to meet their new teacher and get acclimated to their classroom. Additionally, parents are given an overview of the kindergarten curriculum and expectations.

Parent Involvement Goal:
Based on the analysis of the parent involvement data, identify and define an area in need of improvement.

The goal of Winston Park Elementary is to increase parental involvement in school events to at least 50% for the 2018 - 2019 school year.  All parent involvement activities will include engaging activities that offer opportunities to learn about student achievement and available resources.

Winston Park Elementary parent involvement data is a parent compact letter that outlines how the parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve State's high standards.

Winston Park Elementary will:
1. Provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables the participating children to meet the State's student acacdemic achievement .
2. Hold parent teacher conferences during which this Compact will be discussed as it relates to the individual child's achievement.
3. Provide parents with frequent reports on their children's progress. 
4. Provide parents reasonable access to staff .
5. Provide parent opportunities to volunteer.

Title I Family Literacy Night

Our Literacy Family Night is when our school gives parents, and their children a time, a place, and some helpful guidelines from an highly effective teacher in reading, writing, and sharing their reading instructional strategies and ideas. Our purpose as an elementary school is to nuture writing and reading for individual enjoyment and building a stronger sense of reading and writing as a benefit to their families and to the school community.
