Title I Requirements

COMPREHENSIVE NEEDS ASSESSMENT of the entire school (including the needs of migrant children) with information about the academic achievement of children in relation to the state academic content standards.
Describe the process utilized to conduct the comprehensive needs assessment for this school.

Previous year's EOY, FSA, BAFS and Checkpoint data are continuously shared, discussed and analyzed by teacher and grade level throughout the school year in grade level, team, leadership and SAC meetings.  This school wide data discussion of results drives instruction to help meet the needs of all students.  

Parents  play a vital role in the process, and are invited to complete a parent survey, participate in monthly SAC meetings and provide input into matters concerning curriculum, school environment and communication.  Results of the survey are shared, and parents are invited to meet with administration to not only discuss survey results, but to discuss student achievment results and strategies for improvement.  All stakeholders are invited to meet and plan goals and objectives which are a part of the SIP.

Coral Park Elementary works collaboratively with the district's Talent Acquisition & Operations department, as well as the district level Teacher Recruitment Committee to retain and recruit highly qualified, certified-in-field, educators. Coral Park also participates in ‘Experience Broward’ Teacher Recruitment Fairs, and vacancies are filled with candidates interviewed at the fair as well as by referrals from the district's instructional staffing department.

Coral Park makes it a priority to cultivate, nurture and retain teachers and enables them to grow professionally.  By utilizing the New Educator Support System (NESS Liaison), Professional Learning Communities (Reading & Math Coaches), District Trainings (District Personnel), School-Based Professional Development (Leadership Team/Team Leaders), Teacher Recognition and Incentives (Administration),  we retain highly qualified, certified-in-field, effective teachers at Coral Park.

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS - Coordination and Integration

Title I, Part A
Title I funds provide additional teachers to assist students, particularly low performing students.

Parental Involvement funds are utilized to fund monthly academic parent nights that help to improve School to Home relationships. Parents are invited to attend training events that allow them to participate in learning skills to support student learning at home. As part of the parental involvement component of the SIP, Coral Park is working towards increasing opportunities for quality workshops that inclued family participation in not only literacy but all core content areas.  Funds are used to purchase food, supplies/materials and provide stipends for teacher presenters.

Staff Development funds are used to develop a comprehensive professional training program to improve not only the delivery of instruction, but also the monitoring and remediation process.  Opportunities are provided through a variety of workshops designed to move teachers to mastery and improve student achievement.

Title I, Part C- Migrant
(Migrant-Title I schools have been advised if Migrant students attend their school)

Coral Park Elementary currently does not have any migrant students enrolled for the 2018-19 school year.
However, if we were to receive migrant students, the school counselor and social worker would collaborate with community agencies to ensure that needed services such as health and nutrition are provided. Remediation and tutoring services would also be provided as needed.

Title I, Part D
Neglected and Delinquent

Currently Coral Park has not identifed any students as being neglected or delinquent; however, a plan is in place for those students who are identified as neglected and/or delinquent.
These students are referred to the guidance counselor who coordinates support from the school social worker and the Student Services Department.  The collaboration of all parties will provide support and community resources.

Title II
(District professional development)

At Coral Park Elementary, a Professional Development Committee helps to coordinate professional development opportunities based on teacher surveys, student data that are linked to improving student acheivement in the Florida State Standards.

Title III
(ESOL)

ELL students at Coral Park Elementary are being instructed by certified, ESOL endorsed teachers.  In addition, an ESOL paraprofessional works closely with our ELL population to deliver support and intervention throughout the school year.  This paraprofessional  serves as liaison between the school and ELL community.

Title X- Homeless
(Homeless- All Title I schools may complete with this statement)

All teachers and staff members of Coral Park Elementary are responsible for helping to identify homeless students and referring them to the school's guidance counselor.  The guidance counselor coordinates support from the Homeless Education program offered by the district. The purpose of the Homeless Education Program is to identify homeless students, remove barriers to their education, including school enrollment, provide them with supplemental academic and counseling case management services as well as linkages to their school social worker while maintaining school as the students stable environment.

Supplemental Academic Instruction (SAI)

Currently, Coral Park Elementary does not have SAI funds.  However if funds were available, it would be utilized to fund a six-week Academic Academy to assist struggling students in Reading, Math, and Science on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Violence Prevention Programs

Coral Park Elementary implements the County Student Code of Conduct and follows the District Discipline Matrix. Our school also implements a school-wide behavior program that enforces the District’s Anti-Bullying Policy and has a zero tolerance for bullying and violence. Bullying prevention programs are supported through Peer Counseling/Conflict Mediation programs, classroom instruction which include district adopted character traits,  and student assemblies.  In addition to the classroom instruction, all teachers and staff members receive training on the Anti-Bully policy.

Nutrition Programs

Nutritional programs and health education are an integral part of our school and are discussed through Science and Social Studies curriculum. In addition, nutritional initiatives are implemented through the Broward County Public Schools Food & Nutrition Department and their resources.

Housing Programs

At Coral Park Elementary referrals are made to the guidance counselor who then coordinates support throm the school social worker, when parents are in need of housing or food.  In addition, the front office staff takes note of families expressing a need and passes this information on to administration and/or the guidance counselor.

Head Start

Coral Park Elementary does not participate in the Head Start Program.

Adult Education

Coral Park parents and other members of the community requesting ESOL, GED, or other continuing education programs are referred to the district's community school for services through our school social worker.

Career and Technical Education

Coral Park Elementary does not participate in Career and Technical Education.

Job Training

Through the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and the implementation of the Social Studies curriculum, students work through rigorous curriculum and use technology to build skills, and also research and experience different career fields.  Students also participate in Career Day.  Fifth grade students participate in an annual trip to Junior Achievement (JA) Biz Town to explore different career options and receive minor training in selected fields.

Pre-School Transition

Pre-School Transition

Coral Park Elementary services two classes of VPK-extended day PreK and PreK ESE.  Through leadership and team meetings, the teachers conduct vertical articulation meetings throughout the school year to ensure that the transition from the early childhood programs to kindergarten program is smooth. A Kindergarten  Orientation is also held prior to the beginning of the new school year to give incoming kindergarten students and their parents an opportunity to experience kindergarten curriculum and expectations.

Coral Park Elementary's goal is to increase parental involvement (through increased communication) in school events to at least 50% for the 2018-2019 school year.  Monthly parent involvement activities will include engaging activities that offer opportunities to learn about student achievement in core curriculum areas and available resources to support home-school learning.  In addition, parent involvement will increase through utilizing, a school newsletter, website updates as well as parent links and the school's remind app.

Coral Park Elementary 's Parent Involvement Plan includes providing parent engagement activities geared towards assisting parents in meeting the educational needs of their child/children.  Activities will be centered around Literacy, Math and Science along with trainings to increase parent awareness of the Florida State Standards, Title I Information, and accessing resources.  There will be an Annual Title I Meeting & Book Fair Night, Literacy Night, Math Night, Science & Technology Night, along with an Academic Fair.

Annual Title I Meeting & Book Fair Night - Utilize this opportunity to allow parents to learn about Title I and educational resources.  Parents can also meet classroom teachers, learn about volunteering opportunities and parent trainings and resources that can help meet the needs of students and increase student achievement.

Coral Park Elementary's Professional Development Committee will help to facilitate PD opportunities through a needs survey given to the teachers.  Based on the results, PD's will be arranged both in house and through District trainers.  In addition, monthly PLC's will occur for all grade levels with coaches and adminstration as lead support.

Faculty will participate in PD's and PLC's focused on building instructional practices to help increase student achievement on the required Florida State Standards.

Grade level teams, coaches and administration will meet on a weekly basis to participate in PLC's to:

  • analyze assessment data (BAS, FSA, ongoing weekly assessments, checkpoints & other formative assessments) to identify students who have mastered standards and those who need remediation and enrichment
  • share best practices that results in student mastery of concepts
  • identify strategies and activities/lessons for remediation and enrichment based on student data
  • monitor the instructional focus calendar to determine if instructional pacing needs to be modified
  • collaborate with coaches and administration for support needed to develop high quality instruction and provide guidance as needed to all grade level teams
