Title I Requirements

COMPREHENSIVE NEEDS ASSESSMENT of the entire school (including the needs of migrant children) with information about the academic achievement of children in relation to the state academic content standards.
Describe the process utilized to conduct the comprehensive needs assessment for this school.

Prior year assessment data from the FSA scores, Formative Assessments and diagnostics Assessments were organized with graphs, tables, and charts. Information was organized to show individual teacher, grade level, and school wide results to assist in identifying our goals. Individual student results were given to classroom teachers for their review and help students track their progress.
Parents are also a vital part of the process.  Parent survey is sent home each spring to gather input concerning curriculum, environment, safety, and communication. Results from this survey are used to help write goals and objectives for the school.
Parents are invited to meet with administration to discuss student achievement results and strategies for improving scores. Suggestions are discussed with staff and considered for inclusion in school-wide plans.

​Flamingo Elementary attracts and retains highly qualified teachers through advertising positions in Applitrack and providing quality professional development to support effective instructional practices in the classroom. We make every effort to retain highly qualified, certified-in-field and effective teachers in our school by utilizing the New Educatore Support System (NESS/TIER Mentor), Professional Learning Communities (PLC) and support provided by coaches in ELA, Math & Science.  Teachers are encouraged to attend District Trainings, School -Based Professional Development Training (Leadership Team / Team Leader)  

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS - Coordination and Integration

Title I, Part A
Title I funds provide additional teachers to assist students, particularly low performing students.

Staff Development funds are used to develop a comprehensive training program to improve Tier 1 instruction through a series of workshops to increase student achievement.  We utilized teacher assistance to work with our struggling students in small groups with teacher direction to support student learning.
Parental Involvement funds are utilizied in our Academic Parent Nights that provide parents with useful information and activities to assist parents in helping their children improve their academic performance at home and in school.  

Title I, Part C- Migrant
(Migrant-Title I schools have been advised if Migrant students attend their school)

There are no migrant students attending this school. In the event that migrant students register, the school will collaborate with community agencies to ensure that needed services such as health and nutrition are provided. In addition, remediation and tutoring services will be provided as needed.

Title I, Part D
Neglected and Delinquent

Students identified as neglected and/or delinquent will be connected to a school social worker through the Student Services Department who will provide support and community resources.

Title II
(District professional development)

Teachers participate in professional development linked to improved student achievement in the Florida State Standards through Professional Learning Communities and District trainings.

Title III
(ESOL)

English Language Learners (ELL) students receive reading and developmental language arts instruction by teachers endorsed as English Speakers other Languages (ESOL) teachers.  In addtion, a teacher assistant works with ELL students.

Title X- Homeless
(Homeless- All Title I schools may complete with this statement)

Teachers and staff members are responsible for helping to identify homeless students and referring them to the Homeless Education program offered by the District. The purpose of the Homeless Education Program is to identify homeless students, remove barriers to their education, including school enrollment, provide them with supplemental academic and counseling case management services, bus transportation, as well as linkages to their school social worker, while maintaining school as the students stable environment.

Flamingo Elementary School implements the Broward County Public Schools Student Code of Conduct and follows the District Discipline Matrix. Our school enforces the District’s Anti-Bullying Policy and has a zero tolerance for bullying and violence and Sanford Harmony - Start With Hello inniciative as part of our school-wide Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) program.

Head Start

Flamingo has one fully funded Head Start (HS) class run by one teacher and a certified assistant. Services include: family outreach, home education, wellness and nutrition, and parent trainings. To ensure school readiness, the Head Start (HS) Program implements a  literacy, math, and science curricula in the 119 HS classrooms. The program has aligned the literacy and math standards with the K-3 Florida Standards to improve educational outcomes. This transparent connection between curricula and child expectations has contributed to better prepare students to succeed in kindergarten. An end of the year Creative Curriculum Continuum report, detailing students’ ongoing assessment, is placed in the students’ cumulative folder to familiarize kindergarten teachers with the HS students’ progress in the program. Regarding the logistics of registering students at the elementary schools, the Head Start Program ensures a smooth transition to kindergarten by clearly specifying the necessary enrollment processes and time lines to all families participating in the program. The HS family services support team and the HS teachers provide ongoing guidance to the HS families by indicating the students’ corresponding home school, immunization requirements, and dates scheduled for Kindergarten Round-Ups at those schools

Pre-School Transition

Pre-School Transition

The Pre-K teacher and the parent educator have a "transition parent meeting" at which time they give the parents information on ways to ease their children into transitioning into kindergarten. The Pre-K teacher recommends books to read, activities to do, and a trip to whatever school the child will be attending. The Pre-K teacher encourages the parents to attend Kindergarten Round-Ups with their children. In class, the teacher reads books to the children about going to kindergarten. She takes her class to visit different kindergarten classes. The parents also receive several handouts to help their child transition. Flamingo Elementary works with early childhood learning centers in our Innovation Zone. Flamingo also invites the early childhood learning students in our area to the school for tours and practicing the school routine.

Based on the analysis of the parent involvement data, identify and define an area in need of improvement.

In the 2018 - 2019 school year, Flamingo Elementary will increase parental involvement in school events.  Parents are invited and encouraged to participate in our School Advisory Council, School Advisory Forum , and Parent Teacher Organization.  All parent involvement activities will include engaging activities that offer opportunities to learn about student achievement and available resources to recruit parents.
At our Annual Title 1 Public Meeting, parents are given information regarding the differnet components of the Title 1 Program, the curriculum and the various assessments in each subject areas.
