Title I Requirements

COMPREHENSIVE NEEDS ASSESSMENT of the entire school (including the needs of migrant children) with information about the academic achievement of children in relation to the state academic content standards.
Describe the process utilized to conduct the comprehensive needs assessment for this school.

Prior year assessment data from the FSA scores, BAS reading scores and other internal assessments and diagnostics test are organized, shared and discussed throughout the school year.  Information is organized to show individual teacher, grade level, and school wide results. Individual student results were given to classroom teachers for their review.

In the Spring of 2018, the school conducts a needs assessment with all staff. Conversation is held amongst stakeholders regarding our SIP and suggestions for improvement. A Title I Parent Survey is also sent home with students to gauge our effectiveness as a school. All information is shared during SAC meetings and input from parents and community is sought in regards to our SIP. As we gather data from the state, additional meetings are conducted to create and review the SIP for the 2018-2019 school year.

*Teachers new to the district, new to the grade level, or North Andrews Gardens Elementary are assigned a mentor teacher and/or Grade Chair.
*We have both National Board Mentors and school-based National Board Certified Teachers at our school site.
*Teachers participate in Professional Learning Communities at our site with focus on improving teacher practice and student achievement.

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS - Coordination and Integration

Title I, Part A
Title I funds provide additional teachers to assist students, particularly low performing students.

Total Allocation=$ 402,222
A majority of the funds are spent on teacher salaries to reduce the student teacher ratio to better assist low performing students during the instructional day.

Total funds are used for parental involvement=$4,572
Parental Involvement Funds are utilized to fund parent nights that provide parents with new skills to support student learning at home. Improving the frequency and quality of family participation and increasing family literacy and math skills are also goals of our parental involvement component. Parent trainings such as Understanding State Standards and Literacy and Math Nights are scheduled. 

Funds are used for teacher salary implementation = $357,888

Funds used for supplemental activities = 39,765

Title I, Part C- Migrant
(Migrant-Title I schools have been advised if Migrant students attend their school)

 As we identify students, collaboration with community agencies take place to ensure that needed services such as health and nutrition are provided. Remediation and tutoring services are  provided as needed.
 

Title I, Part D
Neglected and Delinquent

​Students identified as neglected and/or delinquent will be connected to a school social worker through our guidance counselor who will provide support and community resources.

Title II
(District professional development)

Teachers participate in district-developed workshops in Florida State Standards and Assessment training. This encompasses Literacy, Mathematics, Science, and Technology.

 

Title III
(ESOL)

ELL students receive reading and developmental language arts instruction by a certified ESOL teacher. The Multicultural department also provides ESOL instructional materials to be used with ELL students. We also maintain ELL reading support groups at our site with  ESOL para.

 

Title X- Homeless
(Homeless- All Title I schools may complete with this statement)

Teachers and staff members are responsible for helping to identify homeless students and referring them to the Homeless Education Program offered by the district. The purpose of the Homeless Education Program is to identify homeless students, remove barriers to their education, including school enrollment, provide them with supplemental academic and counseling case management services as well linkages to their school social worker while maintaining school as the students' stable environment.

Violence Prevention Programs

North Andrews Gardens Elementary school implements the Broward County Elementary Student Code of Conduct and follows the District Discipline Matrix. Our school enforces the District's Anti-Bullying Policy and has a zero tolerance for bullying and violence. “Project Bridge”: Anti-Bullying program for students and staff is promoted/supported through teacher meetings, guest speakers and classroom lessons. All students participate in Anti-Bullying training at the beginning of the school year and view an anti-bullying video. We also ask our teachers to visit the website PBIS World for recommendations with behavior interventions.

 

Nutrition Programs

​Nutritional programs and health education are an integral part of our school's curriculum. Healthy food choices are provided daily in our school cafeteria. During the month of October the school and district focus on school nutrition. Additional focus on good nutrition is received through Food Services as they highlight specific food and vegetable choices and provide teachers with curriculum they can share.

Head Start

North Andrews Gardens Elementary does not have a Head Start Program at this time. However, when incoming families looking to register ask about such programs, they are given information regarding programs in our immediate area.

Career and Technical Education

We do not have any such program at our school.

Job Training

Fifth grade students participate in an annual trip to Junior Achievement (JA) Finance Park to explore different career options and receive minor training in selected fields.

Pre-School Transition

Pre-School Transition

North Andrews Gardens Elementary assists preschool children in their transition from childhood programs to elementary school programs in a variety of ways. In April, North Andrews Gardens hosts, "Kindergarten Roundup", for incoming Kindergarten students and their parents. Kindergarten Roundup provides parents and students the opportunity to meet the Kindergarten teachers, visit the classrooms, and learn about the Kindergarten programs and expectations. In addition, prior to the first day of school, Kindergarten Orientation is held at the school. Students and parents meet their child's assigned teacher and visit the classroom. In January, we host a Magnet Showcase Open House where all grade levels including incoming Kindergartners are invited to learn about our Visual and Performing Arts programs. Flyers are sent to our surrounding preschools inviting families to attend our “Kindergarten Round Up.” School tours are made available to families during the year.
