Title I Requirements

COMPREHENSIVE NEEDS ASSESSMENT of the entire school (including the needs of migrant children) with information about the academic achievement of children in relation to the state academic content standards.
Describe the process utilized to conduct the comprehensive needs assessment for this school.

Florida Standard Assessment (FSA), Benchmark Standards Assessment (BSA), End of Course Exams (EOC) and Mini Assessments are disaggregated and organized into informational charts.Then they are provided to teachers for review of their individual students’ results.  Administrators, coaches and teachers collaborate to review and discuss the results.  The data is gathered and analyzed continuously throughout the school year to determine strategies to increase student achievement.

At Dillard High School 6-12 most teachers are Highly Qualified Teachers (HQT).  However, there are nine teachers who are teaching "out-of-field" (OOF) in their assigned subject areas.  These teachers are as follows: Marvin M. Afolayan, Kendra Carter, Micheal E. Hudson-Vassell, Phillip M. Jones, II, Brittney O'Connor, Enjoli Paul, Timney Bernice, Jacqueline Singletary, and Angela J. Thomas.

Describe strategies that will be used to attract high-quality, highly qualified teachers.

The Human Resource and Staff Development Department of Broward County Public Schools works in conjunction with Dillard High School 6-12 to recruit and retain highly effective instructors.  The vacancies are filled with candidates who are interviewed and referred by the district’s Talent Acquisition Department.  Highly effective instructors are an integral part of the success of  students at Dillard High School 6-12.

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS - Coordination and Integration

Title I, Part A
Title I funds provide additional teachers to assist students, particularly low performing students.

Professional Staff Development funds are utilized to improve the strategies and practices of the instructors to increase student achievement. These funds are also used to retain additional staff to assist students, especially those who are low-performing. Some additional school staff funded through Title I Part A funds are as follows: Reading Coach/Resource Teacher, School Social Worker, and the Community Liaison in an effort to offer additional social-emotional and academic support to students. Parental involvement funds are utilized to increase parent participation through Title I Parent Night activities for mathematics, reading and family literacy.  Parent involvement is paramount for the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional success of the student.

Dillard High School 6-12 has no migrant students during the 2018-2019 school year.

Title I, Part D
Neglected and Delinquent

Teachers, administration, and school counselors work collaboratively to identify and support neglected and deliquent students through mentoring, parental involvement, and parental communication.  Dillard High School 6-12 provides two social workers (in-house) who provide continual support and resources to neglected or delinquent students. 

Title II
(District professional development)

At Dillard High 6-12, teachers participate in district professional development study days, PLC sessions and various workshops such as: Rigor, Bridges/Marzano iObservation, Effective Parent Involvement, Accountable Talk, content-specific/standards-based training, social-emotional learning (SEL), and Writing Across the Curriculum.

Title III
(ESOL)

Developmental language arts and reading instruction for ELL students is provided by highly-qualified English Language Arts (ELA) teachers.  Dillard High School 6-12 has one ESOL teacher, three bi-lingual teachers, and teacher aides that service our ELL students.  The Multicultural Department ensures that our staff is equipped with the required materials.

Title X- Homeless

Dillard High School 6-12 has a Homeless Liaison that helps to identify and assist families in need.  Faculty and staff at Dillard High School 6-12 are also required to assist in identifying homeless students, and refer them to the Homeless Education program provided by the district.  This program identifies homeless students, remove challenges that may be barriers to their education, and supplement the students with academics and counseling while ensuring that the students reside in a stable environment.

Supplemental Academic Instruction (SAI)

Supplemental Academic Instructional funds are available at Dillard High School 6-12 to assist students that may have academic challenges with reading and math.  Additionally, the funds provide after school and Saturday tutoring in math and reading remediation.

Violence Prevention Programs

The District’s Discipline Matrix, Student Code of Conduct and Diversity, Prevention and Intervention, RTI (Response To Intervention), Personalization through Academic and Social Learning (PASL), and Mile Marker are programs utilized by Dillard High School 6-12 to prevent bullying, sexual harassment, and other violent acts.  Additionally, peer counselors are used to visit classes or work one-on-one in order to support students. 

Nutrition Programs

Nutrition and Health Education are an important factor in student academic success.  At Dillard High School 6-12 students learn about these values through the physical education and science departments.  Students are given breakfast and lunch which offers a healthy and balanced meal program.

Housing Programs

Dillard High School 6-12 does not have any housing programs for the 2018-2019 school year.

Head Start

Dillard High School 6-12 does not have any Head Start programs for the 2018-2019 school year.

Adult Education

Dillard High School 6-12 offers Adult Education through the Dillard Community School during the 2018-2019 school year.  Continuing education is offered for adults through the following programs: Adult Basic Education, English Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), General Education Development (GED) Preparation Program, and Adult High School Diploma.  

Career and Technical Education

Dillard High School 6-12 provides a variety of career programs that are also aligned with the core academic curriculum.  LEEO (Linking Educational and Employment Opportunities, JA (Junior Achievement), CHOICES (Career Pathway Program), NAF (National Academy Foundation - Finance; Health Science and Hospitality and Tourism) and NFTE (Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship) are programs utilized by the students that foster and facilitate career education.

Job Training

Dillard High School 6-12 does not have any Job Training programs for the 2018-2019 school year.

Other

Dillard High School 6-12 offers both middle and high school students exposure to both the Performing and Visual Arts and Technology Magnet programs, both the first magnets of their kind offered at any educational level in Broward County Public Schools.  Middle and high school students are also encouraged to participate in Dillard's athletic programs as well as clubs and organizations.  Magnet programs, athletics, and clubs and organizations promote positive interactions amongst students.

Parent Involvement Goal:
Based on the analysis of the parent involvement data, identify and define an area in need of improvement.

Based upon the current needs of Dillard High School 6-12, various modes of communication will be used to increase parental involvement in the followng areas: School Advisory Council (SAC), School Advisory Forum (SAF), Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO), Open House-Annual Title I Meeting, Panther Preview Orientation just to name a few.  In addition, we will improve our mode of communication through the school's webpage, monthly newsletters/brochures, and Parent Link which are all considered effective methods of communication.  Parental participation is an integral part of the educational success students.
