Title I Requirements

COMPREHENSIVE NEEDS ASSESSMENT of the entire school (including the needs of migrant children) with information about the academic achievement of children in relation to the state academic content standards.
Describe the process utilized to conduct the comprehensive needs assessment for this school.

Monitoring of school-wide, grade level, and classroom assessment data is ongoing.  Administration, instructional coaches and grade level teams analyze FSA, BAS, BSA, formative and summative assessments to make changes in instruction to address the weakest areas.  During each School Advisory Council (SAC) meeting, school-wide student achievement data is shared with parents.  In addition, stakeholders are given the opportunity to complete a survey on a yearly basis to gather information on communication, curriculum programs, and safety.  This survey is used to develop our school improvement plan.

Describe strategies that will be used to attract high-quality, highly qualified teachers.

Our school works collaboratively with the Talent Acquisition and Operations department to recruit and retain highly qualified educators.  Vacancies are filled using Applitrack, a District-based online system which advertises and tracks potential teacher candidates.  As a Teacher Incentive Funds (TIF) school, educators can earn a variety of incentives for remaining at the school.  Retention of teachers is a priority.  Newly hired educators recieve ongoing support from the Teacher Induction for Effectiveness and Retention program and professional learning communities.  

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS - Coordination and Integration

Title I, Part A
Title I funds provide additional teachers to assist students, particularly low performing students.

Title 1 funds are used to provide additional staff and resources to the school.  In addition, Title 1 funds are used to provide staff development for teachers to improve instructional practices, which will ultimately increase student achievement.  Parental involvement funds are used to educate parents on strengthening the home-to-school connection in the areas of literacy, math and science.  During the professional learning sessions, the parental involvement funds are also used to provided refreshments for the parents as well as students.  

Title I, Part C- Migrant
(Migrant-Title I schools have been advised if Migrant students attend their school)

Migrant students are identified through the registration process.  Additional academic support and resources are provided as needed.  

Title I, Part D
Neglected and Delinquent

In collaboration with our school's social worker, neglected or delinquent students are provided support and their families will have access to community resources.  The Response to Intervention team discusses apporpriate tiered interventions to further the support the student.  

Title II
(District professional development)

Teachers participate in professional learnings to enhance their instructional practice and content knowledge, whcih will ultimately increase student achievement.  

Title III
(ESOL)

English Language Learners (ELL) receives reading and developmental language arts instruction by a certified ESOL and reading teacher.  Students identified as ELL are provided additional small group instruction to support their language and literacy development.  Our school collaborates with the parents of the ELL students to support and provide the necessary accommodations needed for success.  The parents of ELL students receive information from our school in their native language.  

Title X- Homeless
(Homeless- All Title I schools may complete with this statement)

Our staff members assist with identifying families that may be homeless.  Once identified, the guidance counselor and social worker refer families to the Homeless Education Program to receive additional support.  

Supplemental Academic Instruction (SAI)

The SAI funds are used to offer additional academic support/tutoring for struggling students.  

Violence Prevention Programs

Our school provides a culture of acceptance and respect for all.  Teachers are implementing daily social emotional learning activities to build a sense of community in their classrooms. Bullying prevention, character education, and violence prevention programs are delivered annually. All staff members are trained in bullying prevention and identification, child abuse, and social emotional learning.  Yearly,  all stakeholders collaborate to develop a school-wide positive behavior plan.  

Nutrition Programs

Health education is taught through the physical education curriculum and initiatives through Broward Schools.  

Housing Programs

Our school counselor and social worker assist families in need by linking them to community resources. 

Head Start

The school supports two Head Start classes to ensure school readiness.  Teachers provide instruction in all content areas and social emotional development through the Creative Curriculum.  Our teachers' instructional practices are strengthened through the CLASS observation tool and the students' development is measured through My Teaching Strategies.   

Adult Education

Parents can receive information on GED, ESOL, and adult education in the front office of our school.  

Career and Technical Education

Our school is a STEM Magnet that provides enriching curriculum in the area of science, technology, engineering and math.  Quarterly hands-on projects allow students to explore, examine, and investigate their world.  Careers in the field of science, math and engineering are explored.  

Job Training

Career education is embedded in the curriculum, and field trips are provided to connect classroom curriculum to the real world.  Students are taught to use a variety of technology to complete globally in the 21st Century.  All 5th grade students participate in Junior Achievement lessons and a field trip to explore a variety of career paths.

Pre-School Transition

Pre-School Transition

Our school offers one Specialized Pre-K ESE class, two Intensive Pre-K classes and two Head Start classes. These classes provide a standards based cuuriculum to ensure kindergarten readiness. Kindergarten orientation is provided to parents to ensure a smooth transition into kindergarten. Kindergarten teachers explain expectations and provide recommendations on how to best prepare their child for the upcoming school year.      

 

PARENT INVOLVEMENT Action Plan

Parent Involvement Goal:
Based on the analysis of the parent involvement data, identify and define an area in need of improvement.

The goal of Colbert Museum Magnet is to increase parental involement in school events to at least 65% for the 2018-2019 school year.  All families are encouraged to attend the Engineering Elementary Nights which showcase students' STEM projects.  Other family events will include art and music performances from students and curriculum nights to assist parents with supporting their child's education.

Engineering Showcase and Curriculum Night

On October 18, 2018, all students and parents are invited to attend a fun and interactive evening of Language Arts and STEM.  Parents will be provided with grade specific content area materials that will enable them to work at home with their child.  Also, parents and students will able visit Engineering is Elementary exhibits and student projects from robotics and art.
