According to the BI report the Highly Qualified Status of all of our classroom teachers is "NO".  The reason is "Not Required".

 We will attract highly qulified teachers by attending experience browrad teacher recruitment fairs, utilizing 
TIF 5 incentives and creating a collaborative environment.  

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS - Coordination and Integration

Title I, Part A
Title I funds provide additional teachers to assist students, particularly low performing students.

Staff development funds are used to develop a comprehensive professional training program to improve instruction through a variety of in-house and district workshops designed to move teachers to mastery and improve student achievement.  

Parental Involvement funds are utilizze to fund quarterly academic parent nights.  The training provides parents with new skills to support student learning at home.  Monies are used to purchase food, supplies, and provide stipends for teacher presenters.  

Title I, Part C- Migrant
(Migrant-Title I schools have been advised if Migrant students attend their school)

One student has been identified. Collaboration with community agencies will take place to ensure that needed services such as health and nutrition are provided. Remediation and tutoring services will be provided as needed. 

Title I, Part D
Neglected and Delinquent

Students identified as neglected and/or delinquent will be connected to a school social worker through the Student Services Department who will provide support and community resources.  The social worker visits weekly and collaborates with the support staff as part of the RTI team.

Title III
(ESOL)


All students are being instructed by certified, ESOL endorsed teachers, or teachers working towards endorsement.  ABC School has employs a paraprofessional who works closely with our ELL population.  This staff member impacts 45 ELL students per day delivering support and intervention programs.  This staff member serves as liaison between the school and ELL community.

Title X- Homeless
(Homeless- All Title I schools may complete with this statement)

Teachers and staff members are responsible for helping to identify homeless students and referring them to the Homeless Education program offered by the district. The purpose of the Homeless Education Program is to identify homeless students, remove barriers to their education, including school enrollment, provide them with supplemental academic and counseling case management services as well as linkages to their school social worker while maintaining school as the students stable environment.

Violence Prevention Programs

Bennett Elementary school implements the County Student Code of Conduct and follows the District Discipline Matrix. Our school enforces the District’s Anti-Bullying Policy and has a zero tolerance for bullying and violence. Bullying prevention programs are supported through Youth Crime Watch, Peer Counseling/Conflict Mediation programs, guest speakers and student assemblies.

Bennett builds a violence prevention culture Broward County adopted character traits. In addition to the classroom instruction, all teachers and staff members received training on the Anti-Bully policy.

Nutrition Programs

Nutritional programs and health education are an integral part of our school, specifically through the Physical Educational curriculum and federal initiatives of the Broward County Public Schools Food & Nutrition Department.

Housing Programs

Referrals are made to the school social worker, when parents are in need of housing or food.  Additionally, the front office staff takes note of families expressing a need and passes this information on to administration and/or the guidance counselor

Head Start

To ensure school readiness, the Head Start Program provides literacy, math, and science curricula that align with the K-3 national standards to improve educational outcomes. This connection between curricula and child expectations has contributed to better prepare students to succeed in Kindergarten. An end-of-the year Creative Curriculum Continuum report, detailing students’ ongoing assessment, is placed in the students’ cumulative folder to familiarize kindergarten teachers with the Head Start students’ progress in the program.

Adult Education

Parents and other adults of the community requesting ESOL, GED, or other continuing education programs are referred to the district's community school for services through our school social worker.

Career and Technical Education

Technical education is embedded throughout the curriculum across all disciplines.  Students  participate in College Career Readiness Week, Dress for Success Day, and additional district supported programs that support career and technical education.  

Job Training

Project based learning gives students opportunities to train for future jobs.

Other

Student Listeners - Selected students participate in the Listener program. These listeners are trained through the district to work with students. 
Counselors - Counselors from out side vendors that work with some of our student.  

 

Pre-School Transition

Pre-School Transition

Bennett Elementary School services three classes of Specialized PreK ESE (formerly Preschool Learning Activities Classroom Experience-PLACE), 5 Intensive Pre-School and two Head Start classes. The teachers conduct vertical articulation meetings during the school year to ensure that the transition from the early childhood programs to kindergarten program is smooth. A Kindergarten (Kindergarten Round-up) Orientation is also held prior to the beginning of the school year. This gives the incoming kindergarten students an opportunity to meet their new teacher and get acclimated to their classroom. Additionally, parents are given an overview of the kindergarten curriculum and expectations.

The goal of Bennett Elementary is to increase parental involvement in school events to at least 10% for the 2017-2018 school year.  All parent involvement activities will incllude engaging activities that offer opportunities to learn about student achievement and available resources.

  •  This training will focus on social, emotional, academic, and behavioral supports to increase student academic and behavioral performance. Teachers will transform their personal SEL and Social Intelligence, inevitably matriculating into their teaching practice, and into the SEL of students.

STEM Scopes

In this interactive professional learning course, participants are introduced to the essential science instructional materials being implemented from the 2018-2019 through the 2022-2023 school years. The hands-on approach provides participants with the opportunity to navigate and familiarize themselves with the features and pedagogy of the hands-on, print, and online components. Participants will have the opportunity to explore lesson plans and understand how to manage and integrate the resources together into cohesive instructional plans. Through active learning experiences, participants recognize how to infuse the print and hands-on materials to adopt, adapt, and design standards-aligned, differentiated science experiences that meet the needs of all learners. Connections between the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards (NGSSS) for Science, Social and Emotional Learning, and WIDA Standards will be embedded through an integrated approach.
