Title I Requirements

COMPREHENSIVE NEEDS ASSESSMENT of the entire school (including the needs of migrant children) with information about the academic achievement of children in relation to the state academic content standards.
Describe the process utilized to conduct the comprehensive needs assessment for this school.

Riverland Elementary compiles an articulation database, in which all student assesment data is housed. This data incudes FSA scores, Benchmark Assessment System (BAS) scores and other grade-level specific subject area baseline assessments. This data is analyzed school wide in order to highlight trends, set goals and determine school-wide initiatives. Teachers further analze this data to guide and modify their instruction to meet the speicific needs of their students. Riverland Elementary involves parents and the community in various ways . Input is collected via our Title I Parent and Family Engagement Survey in the spring and by attending our Title I Open House and monthly SAC meetings. Parent conferences are also an essential component of encouraging parent involvement.

Riverland Elementary works in collaboration with the district's Talent Acquisition and Operations department in order to attract high-quality, highly qualified educators. Our school pariticpates in the 'Experience Broward' Teacher Recruitment Fairs when vacancies need to be filled and once referred by the district, candidates are interviewed by a collaborative team at the school. Retention is also an essential component of attracting highly qualified professionals. Riverland Elementary cultivates a professional growth mind set by utilizing our district initiatives such as Teacher Incentive Fund (TIFV) Induction Coaching staff and Lead teachers. Additionally, our teachers work collaboratively in weekly Professional Learning Communities addressing grade-level specific instruction and school-wide initiattives. 

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS - Coordination and Integration

Title I, Part A
Title I funds provide additional teachers to assist students, particularly low performing students.

Title I funds are used towards staff proffessional development and parental involvement. These funds provide the opportunity to develop a comprehensive professional training program that is focused on student academic achievement. This program also funds for Extra Learning Opportunities where our students can receive additional hours per week of small group instruction. Title I also funds parent nights focused on increasing parent involvement and student achievement at home. These funds are used to purchase items such as food and supplies/materials that may be necessary.

Title I, Part C- Migrant
(Migrant-Title I schools have been advised if Migrant students attend their school)

At this time, Riverland Elementary does not have any migrant students. Continuous collaboration with community agencies takes place to ensure that all services needed can be provided if a child is identified as migrant.

Title I, Part D
Neglected and Delinquent

Students that are identified as neglected and/or deliquent will be referred to our school social worker through the Student Services Department. 

Title II
(District professional development)

Teachers participate in school and district professional development focused on student academic achievement as aligned to the Florida Standards.

Title III
(ESOL)

All English Language Learners (ELL) receive instruction by a certified teacher. Additionally, they receive support from ESOL accomodations in the classroom such as flexible setting and language dictionaries. Parents are provided language support and resources in their home language at parent nights and parent conferences.

Title X- Homeless
(Homeless- All Title I schools may complete with this statement)

In accordance with the Homeless Education program offered by the district, all reachers and staff members are responsible for helping identify homeless students and referring them to the district program. The purpose of the Homeless Education Program is to identify homeless students, remove barriers to their education, provide them with supplemental academic and counseling case management services as well as linkages to our school social workers while maintaining school as the students' stable environment.

Supplemental Academic Instruction (SAI)

Supplemental Academic Instruction (SAI) funds will be utilized to provide additional tutoring opportunities for our most fragile students.

Violence Prevention Programs

Riverland Elementary implements the County Student Code of Conduct and follows the District Discipline Matrix. We strive to build a violence prevention culture through quarterly classroom lessons provided by our guidance counselor addressing anger management conflict resolution, bullying prevention and the Broward County adopted character traits. Furthermore, all teachers and staff members receive yearly training on the Anti-Bullying policy. 

Nutrition Programs

Riverland Elementary provides health education through our Physical Education curriculum aligned with the Florida Standards and the Broward County Public Schools Food and Nutrition Department.

Housing Programs

When families are in need of housing or food, all referrals are made to our school social worker. This information is also shared with our school guidance counselor to provide futher support to those families if necessary.

Head Start

Riverland Elementary's Head Start Program provides literacy, math, and science curriculum that is aligned with the K-3 national standards to improve student achievement. An end-of-year Creative Curriculum Continuum report, detailing students' ongoing assessment, is placed in the students' cumulative folder to familiarize kindergarten teachers with the students' achievements in the Head Start Program.

Adult Education

Any parents or families of our community that request information regarding ESOL, GED, or other continuing education programs are referred to the district's community school through our school social worker.

Career and Technical Education

Career and technical education does not apply at Riverland Elementary.

Job Training

The guidance counselor provides quarterly lessons within the classroom, focusing on career and technical education. In addition, all fifth grade students will receive instruction through yearly participation in the Junior Achievement Biztown Program.

Pre-School Transition

Pre-School Transition

Riverland Elementary school services two Head Start classes. The teachers conduct vertical articulation meetings during the school year to ensure that the transition from the early childhood programs to kindergarten program is smooth. A Kindergarten Orientation is also held prior to the beginning of the school year. This gives the incoming kindergarten students an opportunity to meet their new teacher and get acclimated to their classroom. Additionally, parents are given an overview of the kindergarten curriculum and expectations.

Parent Involvement Goal:
Based on the analysis of the parent involvement data, identify and define an area in need of improvement.

The goal of Riverland Elementary school is to increase parental involvement in school events by at least 10% for the 2018-2019 school year.  All parent involvement activities will include engaging activities that offer opportunities to learn about student achievement and available resources.
