RESPONSE TO INTERVENTION (RTI)

Response to Intervention (RtI) uses student academic and behavior information to identify students with learning and behavior needs to guarantee that those in danger of failure and/or retention are receiving assistance and support.

Describe all intervention strategies employed by the school to improve the academic performance of students identified by the early warning system.

We collect a variety of school level data to monitor student progression toward meeting school and district goals. In particular, we use data from common assessments given by our teachers to determine student progression toward meeting school and district goals. We also collect and analyze EOC, FSA, and PSAT.  Data from common formative and summative assessments are used to inform instruction based on students' needs. We also use Khan Academy, USA Test Prep, Achieve 3000, and Naviance to help guide instructional decisions and provide students with additional academic opportunities and to institute appropriate interventions.

To ensure the fidelity of appropriate interventions for students that are not progressing towards school and district goals, we conduct regular Rti meetings, and foster a culture that encourages collaboration between teachers and parents to help improve student achievement.  We also offer a variety of remediation opportunities that are monitored, including structure teacher assistance and STAR Tutoring. To ensure all classroom instruction is accessible to the full range of learners using Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles, we provide our teachers with the traditional and current resources needed to be effective. Resources include computers, educational software, textbooks, among other things.

BEST PRACTICE #4

Scaling Up BEST Practices

CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT

School improvement is based on a continuous improvement model, using research-based accepted best practices, which align with student achievement needs, insure student progress, and may be revised when appropriate.

Goals

As evidenced in the SES Band Data, which content area(s) will be the focus for improving student achievement and why was this area chosen?

The content areas we will focus on for improving student achievement are reading and math. They are the lowest performing areas based on SES data. Overall, the school is ranked 4 out of 58 in our SES band. 57% of student are profceincy in math, 67% of students are profeciency in reading, 74% of student are profceint in science,  and 83% are profcient in social studies. The school received 63 points for learning gains in reading and 51points for learning gains in math. 51% of our lowest quartile made reading gains and 56% of our lowest quartile made reading gaines in math.

What specific BEST Practice(s) will be implemented or scaled-up to improve teaching and learning in order to increase performance within the SES Band?

We will target BEST Practice #1A Focused & Authentic Professional Learning Community (PLC) and Best Practice #2 Response to Intervention (RTI).  Teachers along with administartion will engage in three professional learning communites based on content area, instructional practice, new teachers, and Advacnced Placement & Cambrindge International. The school will put in place a comprehensive plan for implmenting the three tier of response to intervention. The comprehensive problem solving team will meet biomnthly for students in need of tier II and tier III inteverntion.

Describe in detail how the BEST Practice(s) will be scaled-up.

Best Practice #1
Teachers will engage in professional learning communities in content areas to develop aligned rigorous curriculum based on the Florida Standards. In the content based PLC, teachers will creat common assessment to monitor student learning, create common currcilium maps based on the standards for the course, and review student achievement on common assessments.  Teachers will also parctipate in professional learning communities that focus on the instructional practice of student learning by examining student engagement, monitoring student learning, and ownership of learning.  Teachers will be strained on the strategies, implment the strategies, perform peer observations, and then reflect on implmentation & peer observations. Teachers will also work with College Board and Cambridge Interantion Examination trainers to meet the learning of students in our acclerated courses. Teachers will work collobately to examin data, share best practices, and meet with administration  to  discuss expectation ofrstudent performance. New fauclty and staff will parcitpate in a professional learning comunity to promote the foudncation for quality instruction.  Teachers will work on behavior management, best practice, and monitoring student engagement.

Best Practice #2
Teachers will impelemnt Tier I strategies in both academics(ELL Stratges, ESE Strategies, Marazano Stratgies, Understanding by Design)  and behavior (School Wide Postive Bheavior, CHAMP Strategies).  Teachers, staff and dministration will implment Tier II Academic (Achieve 3000, USA Test Prep, Kahn Academey,  Math Nation) and behavior (behavior contracts, conference, postive behavior tickets, student reacogintion).  Teachers, staff, and adminsitration will implment Tier II Academic (Small Group Pull Outs, Push In Support,  After School Tutoring Program) and Behavior (Postive Behavior Plans, Conference, Frequent Checkins).

What specific school-level progress monitoring data is collected and how often?

In the area of reading the school will use common asssessment to monitor student learning. The assements will be at least twice a month.  The following are examples: fsa prompts, PSAT practice assessment, SAT practice asssessment, AICE Prompts, fsa reading mini assessments, and midterm. In the area of reading the school will use common asssessment to monitor student learning. The assements will be at least twice a month. The following are examples: quizzes, chapter assessments, fsa assessments, and midterms. Montoring of instruction practice will be by quartlerly peer learning walks.

How does the school ensure the fidelity of students not progressing towards school and district goals?

Students not progressing towards school and district goals will be placed on progress monitoring plans. Students will be able to attend our free after school tutoring program.  Tier II invertion programs of achieve 300, USA Test Prep, and math nation will be used. Students in need of Tier III academic intervention will receive small group instruction with a certified teacher.

How does the school ensure that all classroom instruction is accessible to the full range of learners using Universal Designs for Learning (UDL) for effective instructional design (planning) and delivery (teaching)?

The universal design of learning is implemented in professional learning communities working to develop a curriculum that provides for student monitoring, remediation, and engagement. The currclium will ensure that student are taught are the appropiate standard in the courses, montitor for student mastery on stanadards, and provide redemation and engaglment based on performance.  Teachers will use English Language Learner strategies  in all content areas. Teacher will implment strategies based on students Indevidualed Education Plan to meet the needs of students with disabilites.

How does the school ensure Tier 1 Standards-Based classroom instruction is being implemented properly and effectively?

All courses use the course descirption provided the Florida Department of Education to determine material and content that will be tuaght in a course.  Student will be assessed on the standard for the course.  Content area professional learning communites meet monthly to ensure that instructional practice, lesson plans, and assessments meet the needs of the learner. Administration and Peers perform classroom observation to monitor instruction.

Describe texts used for core, supplemental, and intervention programs at each grade level. How does the school ensure students have access to a balance of literary and informational text in a variety of mediums?

Focus texts across disciplines are aligned by grade-level and monitored to ensure grade-appropriate text complexity in order to drive standards-based instruction in all classrooms.  Students encounter informative texts in sciences, social studies, and electives, and encounter a balance of literary and informative texts in english and reading classes.  PLCs incorporate into each lesson or unit Tier II supplemental texts for extension and remediation.  Literacy specialists and support provide guidance on text selection and differentiation, as well Tier III intervention programs for students in need. Intervnetion programs of Achieve 3000, USA Test Prep (Social Studies & Sicence), and math nation are used with target students.  An afterschool tuoring pgroma in math, reading, science, and social studies is offered to student in need.
