What elements will be addressed?

Data are used to identify reasons why students are not meeting expectations

Why is it occuring?

The RtI team has noted that although teachers are working to identify students that are not meeting academic expectations and are providing interventions, we are noticing that the referrals lack data the is directly aligned to the referral.

What are we going to do about it?

Our literacy coach and RtI leadership team member, Ms. Jo Benitiez provided each of the teachers with an RtI flowchart.  In addition to the flowchart, she has also worked collaboratively with district departments and school-based staff to develop a flowchart that breaks down the various areas of concern with respect to struggling readers.  It is our hope that these two documents will help teachers to see the intricacies of reading and how the components work in unison to develop proficient readers.

Action Plan

By September 2018, each teacher will receive the two flowcharts.  A faculty meeting will be held in September to inform teachers of this goal and to review the flowcharts.

By January 2019, we will reevaluate our progress.  Using this data we will update teachers regarding school-wide progress.

How will we monitor and measure our success?

We will monitor this goal at the end of each RtI date through a debrief.  We will track the overall percentage of teachers meeting our goal, "having data aligned to the referral."

What elements will be addressed?

Available resources are allocated effectively

Why is it occuring?

As we evolve as a district, we have updated documents that have been designed to afford teachers the opportunity to provide intensive intervention aligned to identified areas of student deficiency.  However, we have noted that many of the items listed could be updated.  Additionally, we should be providing updated training and doing inventory on these items to ensure that our teachers have the tools requisite to provide comprehensive instruction to all students.

What are we going to do about it?

Identify gaps in materials by conducting inventory.  Analyze current needs and provide training as additional materials aligned to the deficit are acquired.

Action Plan

As of September 2018, curriculum coaches, L. Funk and J. Benitez will inventory all supplemental instructional resources.  By October 1, they will have reached out to departments and identified any materials that we do not have on campus.  By November 1, any resources that we need will be purchased and training will be provided as needed.

How will we monitor and measure our success?

We will monitor our success on a monthly basis after the additional materials and training are provided.  We will measure our success by ensuring strategies are aligned to student need.
