What elements will be addressed?

Professional development and coaching provided to staff

Why is it occuring?

As a result of attrition in staff, approximately 19% of our new teaching staff is new to education.  They have little to no experience with using our district's tool for collecting, documenting, monitoring student data; i.e. BASIS.  Many of them have not been trained on the various interventions that can be implemented to provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 academic and behavioral support for students.  In addition, many of our veteran teachers need a refresher to ensure they have the training to provide the aforementioned processes and services with fidelity.

What are we going to do about it?

Provide staff with additional training on the tools needed during the RtI process; i.e. BASIS.  Provide staff training on our school-wide Tier 1 behavioral intervention strategy; CHAMPS.

Action Plan

*  New teachers will be provided BASIS training as a part of their new teacher activities.
*  New teachers will be provided training on Tier 1 behavioral intervention strategy; CHAMPS and Tier 2 "best practices."
*  All teachers will be provided with continued support with data collection, monitoring, and documentation using BASIS.
•  Staff will be provided "refresh" training on our schoolwide behavior internvetion strategy; CHAMPS.

How will we monitor and measure our success?

Success will be measured from feedback from staff after completing trainings.  It will also be measured through teacher's ability to implement our school-wide behavioral intervention strategy, CHAMPS.  It will also be measured by monitoring their ability to refer students to RtI using BASIS and using the tools within the system to progress monitor and document interventions and the success or failure of the intervention that are implemented.

What elements will be addressed?

Tier 3 academic practices are based on students' needs, aligned with Tier 1 and Tier 2

Why is it occuring?

There has been an ongoing lack of resources to address Tier 3 academic support.  In prior years this need has been both human resources and the materials to address the identified academic deficiencies.  Last year we designated one of our academic coaches to provide Tier 3 academic support for those students identified through RtI.  However, we are still lacking the specific materials needed to provide target support in the areas that have been identified has deficient through assessments; i.e. CMAT.

What are we going to do about it?

Identify specific supplemental material that can be used to provide Tier 3 intervention in math, for those students who are in the RtI process.

Action Plan

  • Identify appropriate supplemental materials to use for Tier 3 academic intervention for students in the RtI process.
  • Develop the appropriate model of delivery for Tier 3 instruction for those students needing more intensive and/or individualized instruction; i.e. one-on-one, small group pull out, etc.
  • Identify funding source to use to purchase materials for Tier 3 academic support.

How will we monitor and measure our success?

  • Success will be measured by evaluating our ability to identify and secure materials for Tier 3 academic intervention in math.  In addition, we will monitor the fidelity with which these resources are utilized and assess their effectiveness with closing the achievement gap for individual students.  Effectiveness will also be measured by staff's ability to use the data obtained by using the material to also support proceeding with recommending students for further evaluation.
