What elements will be addressed?

The leadership team facilitates PD on data-based problem-solving

Why is it occuring?

Due to our universal screening school-wide, teachers are told which students need ELA interventions and the coinciding programs to use.  Therefore, they do not fully understand the decision making process or know how to identify the appropriate intervention program.

What are we going to do about it?

Our Literacy Coach will develop a flow-chart for each grade level identifying the steps to take when assessing a student in ELA.  It will also highlight which intervention programs to use for specific deficits.  Additionally, the staff will be trained on how to go through the flow-chart and apply it to different scenarios.

Action Plan

1.)  By December 21st, Mrs. Stephens will create a flow-chart identifying the steps to take when assessing a student in ELA.  She will also create a document highlighting which intervention programs to use for specific deficits.

2.) Mrs. Murphy and Mrs. Stephens will create different scenarios to present to the staff where they can experience using the flow-chart to meet students needs.

3.) The faculty will meet at the conclusion of the first round of interventions to be trained in utilizing the flow chart and Bayview's Intervention Chart.

How will we monitor and measure our success?

We will use a pre-assessment to assess prior knowledge in diagnosing a problem and determining the appropriate intervention.  At the end of the training, teachers will take a post-test to assess their level of learning from the training.

What elements will be addressed?

Data sources are monitored for consistency and accuracy

Why is it occuring?

Based on the BAS Calibration Conversations last school year, there were some misconceptions and inconsistent scoring techniques on the Benchmark Assessment System. It was identified that the cause of most misconceptions and inconsistencies were due to prior training on previously used systems such as the DRA.

What are we going to do about it?

The literacy coach will plan and conduct a BAS refresher training for the staff to clear up misconceptions and provide resources to refer to throughout testing to ensure consistency across the school.

Action Plan

1.) Literacy coach will create a presentation and resources that will train and refresh the teachers on correctly administering the BAS.
2.) Staff will participate in the training and activities provided by the literacy coach on Wednesday, September 26th, 2018.

How will we monitor and measure our success?

Teachers participated in an interactive question-based game. Once answers were submitted, the correct answer was discussed and the misconceptions were clearly addressed and corrected. Teachers were also given a BAS resource folder with examples of correct ways to code and score the BAS assessments so that teachers can clearly refer back to the correct techniques. Finally, teachers will periodically work with the literacy coach in analyzing and scoring BAS protocols as needed.
