LIA (Latinos in Action) is a service learning initiative in which students from local high school partner with our staff to support our students in priority needs. At risk, and lowest quartile students benefit from instruction academically, and also, in conflict resolution, social skills and coping strategies. Jessica Frias 10/18/2018 James S. Hunt Elementary is currently partnering with Broward County Department of Health to provide preventative dental services to our students. Students are taught about dental hygene, given dental exams, floiride treatments, and given free toothbrushes, flossers, and a book on dental hygene. James S. Hunt is home to a diverse population of students ranging from many different backgrounds; 51% Black/African-American, 42% Hispanic , and 44% of those students are in the ELL program. Hunt Elementary provides our ELL students and families with a game night, and after school programs such as Imagine Learning/CANA to assist ELL students with academic and social learning.
